Blake Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma, in 1976. Raised in a working-class family, Shelton found himself drawn to music and by the age of twelve, he was writing songs and playing the guitar. It only took a short time for his home state to recognize him as a major talent. After graduating high school, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in order to pursue a career in country music.

For his first few years in Nashville, Shelton worked at a music publishing company. He made friends and impressed executives with his talent and in 2001, Shelton’s debut album, Austin was released. The album, and especially the title track became an almost instant hit and gained Shelton legions of fans. After the success of his debut album, Shelton was unstoppable and he continued to release hit songs as well as full-length albums. His relationship with fellow country music star Miranda Lambert gained him media attention, but for Shelton, it has always been all about the music. These days, Shelton is considered to be one of country music’s biggest stars and has received eight Grammy Award nominations.

Blake Shelton is a self-professed redneck and is rarely seen without his signature plaid shirt and blue jeans. Fans love Shelton for his sincerity and no-frills attitude. In 2019, Shelton was named the “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine, an honor that has previously been held by superstars such as George Clooney and Johnny Depp. Although Shelton joked about the honor, his longtime girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, hasn’t let him forget his new style icon status.

Although Shelton himself feels much more at home in jeans and baseball caps, he definitely has some strong opinions when it comes to men’s footwear. He has opened up several times over the years about his very specific hatred for men’s flip-flops.

Blake Shelton hates flip-flops on men

In a 2018 interview, Shelton talked about why he hates it when men wear flip-flops. As Shelton stated: “A man that wears flip flops isn’t willing to help, just in general. He can’t. What’s he going to do in an emergency? Who’s he going to carry out of a room? He can’t, he’s got to worry about his feet? What if there’s a fire?”

The 2018 interview wasn’t the first time that Shelton expressed his very unique hatred of flip-flops. In another interview, he stated that artists should “cover their stinkin’, nasty feet” in music videos and that not even flip-flops are acceptable. He avoided calling out any artists by name, however. In the same interview, Shelton acknowledged that while he loves chilling at home in relaxing clothes, he hates it when artists show up to formal occasions and they are severely underdressed. In fact, Shelton called it “unacceptable.”

It’s clear that Blake Shelton has formed some very specific style dos and don’ts – and he has had these in place well before he became involved with the always-stylish Gwen Stefani.
