Why Doesn’t Meghan Markle Defend Herself in the Media?

Meghan Markle has been the victim of non-stop bullying, both by the general public and her estranged family members – in particular, her father and half-sister. The issues began nearly as soon as her engagement to Prince Harry became public information, and there never seems to be a break from it.

Daily headlines about the Markle family drama have appeared in print and online publications. On social media and other online forums, Markle has been trolled and had her name dragged through the mud. Markle’s father, Thomas Sr. Markle, and her half-sister, Samantha Markle, have consistently created lies about the new Duchess.

Amidst these ongoing conflicts, however, Meghan Markle has remained silent. Royal fans everywhere wonder why the Duchess of Sussex isn’t defending herself in the media, as one would expect your typical celebrity to do?

Meghan Markle’s friends rush to her aid

People Magazine recently published an exclusive article where five of Meghan Markle’s closest female friends anonymously came forward to offer their support. They not only defended Markle as a person, but also tried to clear the air about ongoing family troubles.

About Markle’s personality and who she really is as a person, one life long friend stated that “the perception of their lifestyle and the reality are two different things. Meg cooks for herself and Harry every single day.”

A friend from Los Angeles remarked: “We had a couple of days together recently … She made the most lovely meals. She made tea every day. It was raining and muddy outside, so the dogs got all dirty, and she’s wiping them off with towels. How much she loves her animals, how much she loves her friends, how much she loves feeding you, taking care of you — none of that has changed.”

The five friends also provided clarification on the real story behind the feuds between Meghan Markle and her father and half-sister. They stated that Markle’s half-siblings were “not a part of her life,” and the Duchess’s father did know how to contact her but had failed to.

Other royals have spoken up for Meghan Markle

Fans might remember when Prince Charles (Prince Harry’s father) stood up for Meghan Markle – albeit in a very private, royal sort of way. After one of his close, longtime friends publicly bashed both Meghan Markle and her family, Prince Charles “had a talk” with his friend and cut off all future contact.

Now, another royal has rushed to the aid of Meghan Markle. Tessy Antony, Princess of Luxembourg, took to social media to defend her fellow royal. In response to a Twitter comment, Antony said, “…One should never assume. Either you know or be quiet. It’s not nice to talk badly about someone else just because one can, as he or she takes advantage of the anonymity of the web. Stay Kind!!! It’s the new cool! She does not deserve that.”

Meghan Markle isn’t allowed to defend herself

With others rushing to support her, fans might wonder why Meghan Markle has not once issued a public statement defending herself to the media. If these issues had occurred during her time as an American actress, after all, that is how Markle would deal with them. Now that she is a member of the British royal family, however, the Duchess of Sussex is not allowed to.

In order to appear both neutral and above reproach, members of the royal family are not allowed to respond to or partake in any kind of public conflict. This includes when they, themselves, are being attacked by others. In fact, members of the royal family are not even allowed to mention any kind of political affiliation publicly, nor can they use social media.
