Why Fans Are Convinced Kanye West’s Newfound Faith Is a PR Stunt

Kanye West rose to popularity in the 2000’s with hit singles such as “Gold Digger,” “Stronger,” “Love Lockdown,” and “Heartless.”

However, these days, it’s becoming clear that West does not want to be known as just a rapper. He makes it clear that his Christian faith encompasses all aspects of his life.

Yet, there are people who are skeptical about West’s recent professed love for God. It seems to many onlookers that his recent behavior could just be one big PR stunt.

Kanye West grew up a Christian but once abandoned his faith

West grew up in a Christian household with a very religious mother. As a result, he was introduced to Christianity at a young age and it’s clear that the faith was an important part of his childhood.

However, in West’s earlier songs, he rapped about some struggles he had with being a Christian. For example, in his 2007 song “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” West said: “I had a dream I could buy my way to heaven, when I awoke, I spent that on a necklace. I told God I’d be back in a second, man it’s so hard not to act reckless.”

In an interview with Bossip in 2009, West shared that, while he was a Christian, he believed that “religion is more about separation and judgment than bringing people together and understanding.”

He also added: “I would never go into a religion… I believe in Jesus as an icon, but I don’t feel the responsibility to put my life on Jesus.”

These days Kanye West says he is a ‘born again’ Christian

Of course, West’s views have changed a lot since then. The rapper now embraces Christianity wholeheartedly.

He became the talk of town in Hollywood after setting up Sunday Services this year. The services are a gathering of people that include a lot of gospel and music praising God.

Many celebrities have attended West’s Sunday Services, including Brad Pitt, Katy Perry, and Orlando Bloom. The success of the services also allowed West to expand outside of Los Angeles, and he has conducted them in various parts of the country.

Recently, West also made his faith clear in his new album, “Jesus Is King.” The album is less explicit than his previous releases and include lots of songs about being a Christian.

According to West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, the rapper basically “had an amazing evolution of being born again and being saved by Christ.”

Why people think Kanye West is putting up a PR stunt

While it’s possible that West is experiencing something big in his spiritual life, some onlookers believe that this could all be a PR stunt.

For one thing, West has a history of doing very unusual, unexpected things.

For example, in 2005 during a concert to raise money for Hurricane Katrina’s relief efforts, West was supposed to act as a presenter for the concert, though he deviated from his script to talk about the media’s treatment of African-American families in New Orleans.

Then he stated: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”

At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, West went on stage while Taylor Swift was accepting an award for Best Female Video to tell everyone that “Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”

He also shocked everyone when he supported Donald Trump and said that slavery sounded like a “choice.”

On the other side of the argument, some people do believe that he is sincere in his faith. Christian Post pointed out that West is “different from other celebrities who thank God in one breath and mock Him the next” since he seems to be true to Christian beliefs in all aspects of his life.

Perhaps at this point, only time will tell what West’s intention really is.
