The world is anxiously awaiting the birth of the newest royal baby, and nobody can contain their excitement. This new bundle of joy will be the fourth member of the current fourth generation of the royal family – although it will be the first child for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The other three Royal children belong to Harry’s older brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton.

While the most important thing is that the mother and baby arrive at the end of delivery safely, there is one big question on everyone’s mind. Will Meghan Markle have a boy or a girl? While everyone can’t stop wondering, fans should stop asking. Meghan Markle will never reveal the gender of her baby (to the public, at least) until a particular time.

Tradition says Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t reveal the gender

It is a long-standing tradition that the royal family never reveals the gender of their unborn children. Previously, this meant the royals would not know what they were having until they gave birth. There does seem to be some leeway on this part of the rule, however, as there were rumors that Kate Middleton and Prince William knew the gender of their children before birth.

But, while Queen Elizabeth may be okay with the expecting mother and father knowing the gender, she is most certainly not okay with revealing that information to the public. American celebrities may make big gender reveal announcements, but that type of thing simply isn’t befitting a member of the British Royal Family. Prince William and Kate did not reveal the genders of their three children, and neither will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry would like a daughter

Although we don’t know what the couple will be having, we do know that Prince Harry has hinted he hopes it’s a girl. Don’t get too excited that this could be a big secret reveal. Prince Harry’s hints came well before doctors would have been able to reveal the baby’s gender.

The hint happened during the royal couple’s Sydney tour. A fan in the crowd yelled that they hope the new baby is a girl. Harry responded, “So do I!” While the world now knows that Prince Harry is #teamgirl, Meghan Markle hasn’t hinted as to whether she would prefer a daughter or son. We’re sure that both of them will be happy if the baby is healthy.

Royal fans are leaning towards a girl

According to a poll on Cambridgeshire Live, most fans think the new royal baby will be a girl. The poll allowed for three choices – boy, girl, or twins. 66% of voters chose a girl, while only 11% chose a boy. The remaining 23% believe that Meghan Markle will give birth to twins. Wouldn’t that be a surprise?

When will we find out?

The world will not have to hold it’s collective breath much longer. The Duchess of Sussex is due around the end of April – an exact date wasn’t given, as is also custom for the royal family. The custom of not releasing an exact due date has to do with safety.

This means that it is only a few more short months before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will welcome their new son or daughter into this world. They will do so away from the spotlight, however, and many think they will make a much more subtle birth announcement than Prince William and Kate Middleton. The young couple are allowed this luxury, thanks to Prince Harry being lower in the line of succession.
