Kourtney Kardashian has been one of the main faces of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Though, the eldest Kardashian sister recently shared she is looking to step away from the series for a while.
No doubt many fans are seeing this as a sign that things could be going downhill for the family and their reality TV empire. However, the truth is that Kardashian’s departure is not as negative as one might think, and there is no reason why fans need to worry much.
Kourtney Kardashian has spent much of her adult life on ‘KUWTK’
Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiered in 2007 when Kardashian was in her late 20s. Unlike some of her younger sisters who literally grew up in front of the camera, Kardashian spent much of her childhood away from the spotlight.
However, she still went through a lot of life changes while on the show. In the past several years, fans watched as Kardashian had an on-and-off relationship with Scott Disick, gave birth to three children, and dealt with other ups and downs in her life.
Kardashian is now 40 years old and once expressed that she had thoughts about leaving the show behind. In an interview with Paper Magazine in May 2019, Kardashian shared: “I never thought it was going to become this thing, but everything just happened so quickly from when we shot the sizzle reel or whatever. It got green-lit straight away… I always say I want to move away someday and just be away from it all. Sail away. No one will ever see me again.”
Kourtney Kardashian recently decided to take time off from ‘KUWTK’
In an interview with ET earlier this month, Kardashian revealed that she has decided to step back from filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians for the time being. She shared that she simply wants to dedicate more time to her children. It is important to note that Kardashian also has her own business — a lifestyle brand called Poosh — on the side.
“But I’m not saying goodbye,” Kardashian said. “I think you’ll have to see more of it on the new season, season 18. It isn’t airing yet, but it’s being filmed.”
The Kardashian sisters are not worried about Kourtney leaving
As for whether her fellow family members are worried about the state of the show without Kardashian there, her sisters Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian assured fans that they believe the series can go on as usual and that they think Kourtney won’t be gone for long.
“We love Kourtney and we’ll miss Kourtney and whatever she decides to do,” Khloe said. “I feel like it’s a revolving door, so Kourtney might leave this week, [but] she’ll be back. They all come back.”
Kim and Khloe even joked that the two of them can do a spin-off together without Kourtney there, called Kim and Khloe Take Calabasas. “We can live in the condo with all of our kids and see how that goes,” Kim said.
How long will ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ continue for?
Whether Kourtney Kardashian is present or not, some people believe that the series could be reaching its final seasons.
The show has been on the air for over 10 years and seen a decline in viewership. This means that the family will have to keep hyping up drama (like the recent one with Jordyn Woods) to draw viewers in, but some fans are becoming disinterested in what they see as manufactured drama for TV.
Additionally, thanks to social media, information gets shared on the internet way before it even hits our TV screens. As such, a lot of people are beginning to see no real reason why they have to tune in to Keeping Up With the Kardashians when they can keep up with the family online.
In any case, the Kardashians are currently filming the 18th season of their show, so it seems that Keeping Up With the Kardashians will still be around next year. However, whether it has much of a future left remains to be seen.
