Why ‘Glee’ Star Naya Rivera May Never Be Found
The tragic disappearance of Naya Rivera has Glee fans and people around the world both confused and distraught. The 33-year-old actress went missing on July 8 after renting a pontoon boat and going out on a lake in Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County with her 4-year-old son Josey. While Josey has been found, police have been looking for Rivera for two days now and come up with nothing. The sad truth of the matter is that experts are saying that Rivera may never be found.
Rivera rented a pontoon boat on Lake Piru at around 1 p.m. on July 8th. Three hours later, a boater came across her son sleeping in the boat alone. Josey told police that he and his mom had gone swimming but his mom never got back in the boat.
“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Buschow said initially, according to CBS Los Angeles. “I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”
Why Rivera may not be found
Rivera has since been presumed dead and the search is now focused on finding her body.
“If the body is entangled in something beneath the water, it may never come back up,” Sgt. Kevin Donoghue said in a press conference.
“In a lake, the visibility is not very good,” he continued. “So, if you’ve ever watched underwater videos and you’ve seen divers in the ocean, typically the visibility in the ocean water is much better. So, in the lake, the visibility is terrible.”
And Lake Piru presents a certain set of issues for the search.
“This particular lake, in that area, there’s a lot of trees and plants and such that are under the water that can cause entanglements,” he said. “Makes it unsafe for the divers and it makes a more complicated search.”
How is the search going?
The search team has yet to find more clues as to what happened to Rivera, but for now, they believe that it was a case of accidental drowning.
“We’re using all the assets that are available to us…We have experts who have dove this lake, who know it inside and out, who know where debris pockets might be. So, we’re going to do everything we can to find her. We’re going to continue to search,” Sgt. Donoghue told reporters. “The search managers, those that are responsible for managing the overall search, they may get to a point in time where they’ve expelled every resource, they’ve searched every area, the probability of detection of finding someone in a particular area they’ve exhausted and when we get to that point that’s probably when they’ll have to suspend the search, but we’re not there yet.”
Where is Naya Rivera’s son?
According to The Daily Mail, Josey was recently seen with his father Ryan Dorsey leaving Rivera’s sister’s home in Valencia, California on Thursday. The child is in good health.
