Why Is Fox News Boycotting Twitter?

Fox News and Twitter are currently in the middle of a showdown. This might seem shocking considering the fact that Fox News, its hosts, and fans of Donald Trump adore the social media platform. However, it looks like Fox News’ reverence for Twitter has soured in the recent days. Though the president is still feverishly tweeting from his account, Fox News’ official Twitter account and several other accounts associated with the network have suddenly done dark.

So what is going on exactly? Why has Fox News and many of its hosts suddenly turned their backs on Twitter?

A war with Tucker Carlson

It seems like the war between Twitter and Fox News all circles back to Tucker Carlson Tonight news host, Tucker Carlson. In recent weeks, Carlson has drummed up his racist and anti-immigration rhetoric, following in the footsteps of Trump. Ahead of the midterm elections, he included anti-diversity speeches and commentary blaming the Democrats for the migrant caravan.

Apparently, those in opposition to Carlson and Trump had enough of the conservative political commentator. In retaliation, someone posted Carlson’s home address on Twitter, which is against the social media company’s rules and is also extremely dangerous. Though the posts with his address were taken down, Carlson and Fox News felt like it wasn’t done in a timely manner.

Since his address was posted, protesters have been visiting Carlson’s home and giving him a piece of their minds about his opinions and explosive rhetoric.  Protestors showed up to Carlson’s front door in Washington D.C. shouting, “Racist scumbag, leave town! “The Fox News anchor is obviously not pleased, and he’s even claimed that protesters had broken his front door and were threatening him and his family.  That part of the report seems to be all talk because police have not corroborated the story and protesters have wholeheartedly denied that claim.

One Twitter user did say, “Every night you spread fear into our homes—fear of the other, fear of us, and fear of them. Each night you tell us we are not safe. Tonight you’re reminded that we have a voice.” Another tweet read, “Tonight, we remind you that you are not safe either.”

A blackout

It looks like Carlson is blaming Twitter for the protests outside of his home and as a result, he along with Fox News have decided to stage a boycott of the social media network. Over the weekend Business Insider reported that Fox News had asked its digital staff to stop using Twitter. Unfortunately, not everyone over at the conservative network seemed to get the memo. Both Sean Hannity and the staff over at Fox & Friends are happily tweeting along.

We’re not sure what Fox News is hoping to accomplish with this mini-protest, but thus far they have not released an official statement about their Twitter blackout, and a spokesperson has declined to comment on the boycott.

We just hope that Donald Trump joins the boycott soon, we think everyone across the nation would advocate for that.
