Why Is Kim Kardashian Using a Surrogate for Her Fourth Child?
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, otherwise known as “Kimye,” are one of the most talked about couples in the world. Kim famously gave birth to their first child, a girl, on June 15, 2013, whom they named North West. It seemed that parenthood suited the couple, as they were often photographed doting on their daughter. It wasn’t long before they added a son, Saint West, to their family.
What health issues did Kim Kardashian have during her second pregnancy?
While pregnant with Saint, it was well-known that Kim suffered from two conditions, known as Preeclampsia and Placenta Accreta, making her pregnancy a high-risk one. Preeclampsia can be potentially serious to an unborn baby, as it restricts blood flow to the placenta. One of the most serious risks is the high chance of premature birth. Placenta Accreta is a condition that occurs when the placenta becomes deeply attached to the wall of the uterus, posing a potentially life-threatening risk to the mother.
Did Kim and Kanye want more children?
Despite these conditions, Kim and Kanye wanted their family to grow. To make this happen, they explored their options and decided to have a third baby using a surrogate, who they referred to as a “gestational carrier.” Kim’s egg was fertilized outside the womb using Kanye’s sperm, making the baby biologically theirs. The fertilized egg was implanted into the gestational carrier, who was hired to carry the baby to term. Their third child, a girl named Chicago, was born on January 5, 2018.
Now, the power couple has decided that they want to expand their family even more. They released the exciting news that they are expecting a baby boy via surrogate later in 2019. The couple is said to be thrilled with the news. Although in recent months, Kim had said that she wasn’t sure she wanted more children. As the owners of several homes, including a new Miami condo that Kanye gifted Kim this Christmas, they have plenty of space for another child!
Why are Kim and Kanye using a surrogate for their fourth baby?
So why did Kim and Kanye decide to hire a surrogate again, this time a different one, to carry their fourth child? Health professionals advised Kim that another pregnancy would pose serious concerns, given her previous experiences. A different agency was used for this pregnancy than the couple used with their third child, as they had some problems with that particular agency.
Kim has always been open about her desire for a large family, just like the one she grew up in, and her dreams are certainly coming true. A male embryo was left over from their last pregnancy venture, meaning the couple will have two boys and two girls when their fourth baby is born. Although Kim wishes she could carry the baby herself, she realizes the dangers that come along with the process and decided that a gestational carrier is the best option.
How much will Kim and Kanye’s surrogate be paid?
When Kim and Kanye used a gestational carrier in the past, they reportedly compensated her generously, with ten payments of $4,500 each. Over 400 women each year use a surrogate as a way to have a child when they are concerned with health risks or other issues that prevent them from carrying a baby. Although it hasn’t been said exactly how much the current gestational carrier will be compensated, money is surely no object, as the couple has a combined net worth of about $600 million.
Congratulations to the Kardashian-West family!
