Why Is Tom Holland Taking a Break From Instagram?

There have been quite a few actors to play the iconic role of Spider-Man over the years, but it’s Tom Holland who’s currently getting the most attention. The young actor has played Spider-Man more than any other, and he’s done his part via Homecoming, Far From Home, and Avengers: Endgame to make sure every Marvel Cinematic Universe fan remembers just how wonderful it is to see the web-slinging hero on the big screen. And thanks to Holland, it looks like we’ll be seeing Spider-Man back with the other MCU stars in the future.

Aside from Marvel, though, Holland is branching out in Hollywood and willing to take on more unique roles. And recently, he took to Instagram to tell his followers he was taking a hiatus to work on new material. Here’s what the star just wrote on social media.

Tom Holland is getting more attention than ever due to the battle for Spider-Man

Tom Holland’s grown in popularity over the years thanks to his Marvel star power, but there’s no doubt he’s in the news cycle more than ever due to the drama going on with Spider-Man.

When the Spider-Man films first started, Sony was the original owner of them. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, agreed to help Sony out with production. Things seemed to change when Far From Home became a mega-hit at the box office, however. Disney wanted to change up the financial deal with Sony that would give them more money from the films, and Sony refused to make any changes. This led to a stand-still, and it was announced that Spider-Man would be leaving the MCU because of it.

It looks like Spider-Man’s back in the MCU now, however — and we can thank Holland for that. Holland seemed to show Sony and Disney executives the outpouring of support from fans, which convinced them to come to an agreement and a new money deal to please both sides.

Holland just announced he’s taking a break from Instagram

Now that Holland’s hard work with the MCU is done, he can go back to working on other projects. And he recently announced he was taking a break from Instagram in order to pursue some of his other film endeavors to the fullest. “My Pooch and Me. Off now to go begin my latest venture with the @therussobrothers,” Holland started this Instagram post. “I’m going to be taking a short break from instagram, so see you all in the not so distant future.”

As for what he’s working on, it seems his upcoming film, Cherry, is the Russo brothers film he’s referring to. Bustle explains the film is based on Nico Walker’s semi-autobiographical novel, and the story follows an army medic with undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder who returns to his Ohio home after the Iraq war. Deadline notes Joe Russo explained at Comic-Con, “It’s a story about drug addiction and the opioid crisis. It’s touched us both, it’s a deeply personal movie for us.”

It seems Holland enjoys working with the Russo brothers, as we know Anthony and Joe Russo are also the directors of Avengers: Endgame. But Cherry will give Holland a bigger and better opportunity to prove himself as a serious and compelling actor. Deadline reports the brothers said Cherry will be given an R rating, and it’s going to reach new depths they couldn’t get to with Marvel. “It’s a complicated and mature movie. It doesn’t have the surface-level entertainment od Marvel films, but these are stories that need to be told, and Joe and I are in that position to get these stories made,” Anthony Russo said.

Since Holland is leaving Instagram temporarily to pursue working full-time on Cherry, we’re sure he’ll be giving it his all. We can’t wait to see the movie that comes out in early 2020!
