Why John Krasinski Thinks ‘The Office’ Is the Best Thing He’ll Ever Do

Make no mistake about it, John Krasinski is forever grateful for the opportunity that made him a star and he has no problem with forever being associated with The Office. Krasinski became a household name after landing the role of Jim Halpert on the sitcom and, though his career took off and he went on to more high profile projects, he says he wouldn’t care if people only associated him with playing Jim.

Krasinski says the show is ‘the best thing I’ll ever do’

The actor cherishes the time he spent working on The Office and, during a chat with his former co-star Rainn Wilson, said it was “the best thing” he will ever do professionally.

“Personally, I think it’s the best thing I’ll ever do in my career,” Krasinksi shared on Wilson’s daily Instagram show Hey There, Human.

“Everybody always says, ‘At the end of the day, what if you’re only known for Jim Halpert?’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? That would be the greatest thing ever.’ I remember Steve [Carell], one day he was like, ‘You guys know that no matter what we go on to do — we could go to space — and this will always be the thing we’re known for,’ and how lucky we are that that’s the case,” he added.

The show was special to all of the cast

Wilson shared how Carell seemed to have no doubt that their time on The Office was special, even though the show was just starting out. “[Carell] said that in the first season when we went out to lunch and that always stuck in my head…” he said. “He had that premonition this could be the thing that defines us,” Wilson recalled.

Krasinksi added: “At the time, [Carell] was like, ‘We’re in that moment. This is something really special.’ And, again, I don’t know that I’ll ever have that collaboration with that many extraordinary and extraordinarily talented people from all those incredible writers.”

“My favorite question I always get is, ‘How much did you guys improv?’ And I was like, ‘Hardly at all.’ ‘Cause even my looks to the camera were written by the writers. Those people are the most talented folks in the world,” Krasinski noted.

Krasinski reveals why he sold ‘Some Good News’

The actor may be best known for his role as Jim but during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Krasinski stepped up in a huge way to lift people’s spirits with his YouTube series Some Good News.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue doing the feel-good news show, but it will live on. He decided to sell it to CBS, something that initially rubbed fans the wrong way because they were upset he wouldn’t be personally doing the show anymore.

It turns out he had a good reason for why he had to stop doing it and was grateful for the opportunity to put a little light into the world during some uncertain times.

“I’ve received the most amazingly kind notes about how much that show meant to everyone, but the truth is, it meant no more to anyone than me,” Krasinski explained. “That’s probably the most emotionally fulfilled I’ve ever felt in my entire life.”

He revealed that the plan was to do eight episodes due to his schedule. “I have these other things that I’m going to be having to do very soon, like Jack Ryan and all this other stuff,” Krasinski noted. “More than that… writing, directing, and producing — all those things — with a couple of my friends was so much.”

“I would love to keep doing the show from my office forever. It just wasn’t sustainable,” he explained, reassuring fans that he plans to host a couple of episodes when it lands at CBS.
