Why Kate Middleton’s Mother, Carole Middleton, Was So Worried About Her Daughter’s Relationship With Prince William
Prince William and Kate Middleton went from being college sweethearts to now living their happily ever after. The couple dated for about decade before William asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. This led to reports that the future duchess was growing impatient waiting for the royal to pop the question.
Now it’s being reported that her mother, Carole, was very worried about her daughter during that time. Here’s the reason why Carole was concerned about her daughter’s relationship with William and why she was blamed for one of the pair’s previous breakups.
What Carole was upset about
In an article for the Daily Mail, royal expert Kate Nicholl said that Mrs. Middleton was “concerned” about her daughter’s relationship with the prince after years went by and William still didn’t propose.
“Carole is concerned that Kate’s life has come to a bit of a standstill,” a source told Nicholl prior to their engagement. “She says Kate can’t get on and do normal things because of the public interest in her. She’s of the opinion privately that William should make an honest woman out of her so that she isn’t left waiting in limbo.”
What Carole didn’t know then was that her daughter had made a secret pact with her beau that they would commit to one another.
Was Carole the reason William and Kate broke up?
The pair hit some rough patches in their relationship before they made that pact. In fact, they broke up in 2004 and in 2007.
In 2018, reports surfaced blaming Carole for one of their past breakups. Former Sun editor Duncan Larcombe claimed that Carole’s previous profession is why the couple split in 2004.
In his book William & Kate: The Journey, Duncan said that Carole’s background as a flight attendant did not sit well with some people in William’s inner circle. Larcombe wrote that because of her mother’s one-time profession, people would call Kate “doors to manual” whenever they saw her and eventually urged the prince to break up with her.
However, the palace later denied that Carole’s one-time profession had anything to do with her daughter and William’s brief split.
What Carole’s relationship with her son-in-law is like today
Eventually, William proposed to his longtime girlfriend and the two got married on April 29, 2011.
Since then, they have welcomed three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. So what is Carole relationship with her son-in-law like today?
These days the duke is very close to his wife’s side of the family. He reportedly calls his in-laws “mum” and “dad” and they enjoy going on vacations together. Michael and Carole joined the prince, their daughter, and grandkids on the private Caribbean island of Mustique in the past.
William has also invited them to many royal events including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, the queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Royal Ascot.
