Why Kate Perry and Taylor Swift’s Feud Is Done

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift run in the same social circles and share many of the same fans, so they should be friends, right? Up until recently, this was far from the truth. The stars were involved in a vicious feud for years. But now, it looks like they’ve finally made peace. Does this mean we can look forward to a Perry-Swift collab? Here’s what we know.

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift’s feud history

For years, Swift and Perry have been public enemies. Both women have a romantic history with John Mayer, but no one is certain if he’s the reason things started to go bad between them. However, by 2014, things were definitely bad. Swift gave an interview to Rolling Stone, where she revealed that a rival had inspired her song Bad Blood.

Apparently, Perry had hired dancers that already agreed to work with Swift. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour,” Swift said. “She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational– you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.” The interviewer then states that he pressed Swift, and she admitted there might be a personal element to their conflict. “But I don’t think there would be any personal problem if she weren’t competitive,” Swift said.

Perry commented on the feud during an interview on Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon. “She started it,” Perry said. “And it’s time for her to finish it.”

Perry must have changed her mind about whose responsibility it was to end the feud, because in 2017, during a 24-hour live stream on YouTube to promote her album, Witness, Perry apologized to Swift. “I’m ready to let it go,” she said. “Absolutely, 100 percent. I forgive her, and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her, and I think it’s actually- I think it’s time.”

But the apologies didn’t stop there. The next year, Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch, as a peace offering. Swift shared a photo of the package, along with a note with the words, “deeply sorry,” clearly visible, on Instagram. Swift captioned the post, “Thank you Katy” adding a double heart emoji.

Finally, we have evidence that the feud is clearly over between the two pop stars. Earlier this week, Perry shared an Instagram photo of a plate of cookies. They sat on a plate with the words, “Peace at Last,” and two peace symbols. She tagged the location as “Let’s be friends.” Perry then captioned the photo, “Feels good @taylorswift.” Swift replied to the post with 13 heart emojis.

It’s unclear whether the cookies were sent to Perry by Swift, or if Perry made them to send to Swift. Maybe she just set up a nice photo, and then ate the cookies herself? What we do know is that the feud is over.

Could Katy Perry and Taylor Swift collaborate?

Now that our favorite pop queens have made peace, fans are eager for them to do a collaborative song. Perry even indicated to Entertainment Tonight that she was open to the idea.

Rumors have been swirling about a possible collab since fans noticed both singers were posting tropical themed photos to Instagram. Swift posted palm trees, and Perry then did the same. Then Swift posted a photo wearing a jacket with a flamingo decal, and Perry posted a photo of herself posing with a large plastic flamingo. Does this mean they’re working together on a tropical project? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
