Why Keke Palmer Is Feuding With Rumored Ex-Fling August Alsina

Known as “America’s Sweetheart,” Keke Palmer is hardly ever in drama. Throughout her nearly 20-year career, the former Disney star has pretty much avoided all negative aspects of celebrity life. But on July 10, she found herself in a heated spat with her rumored ex-beau August Alsina. Here’s a look at what happened.

Why is Keke Palmer feuding with August Alsina?

It started after Jada Pinkett Smith went on Red Table Talk and confirmed she’d had a relationship with August Alsina after he admitted such on June 30. Pinkett Smith claimed the fling happened sometime after she met the “No Love” singer in 2015 — the same year Palmer sparked dating rumors with him when they took a photo riding in a car together.

When a fan re-posted the image on Twitter along with the caption, “This you?” Palmer clapped back. She wrote: “Yes girl. August was never my man lol. That’s why you’re still reaching to this day to figure out nothing.”

Palmer had also denied dating August Alsina in a 2015 interview with HelloBeautiful, explaining, “Everybody always thinks I’m dating August just because of the photo we took together on my Instagram page, but no I am not dating August Alsina, we’re just friends.”

August Alsina’s reaction to Keke Palmer’s post was intense

After catching wind of the post, August Alsina took to Twitter and blasted the Hustlers actor. “U absolutely right. I was NEVER ur man,” he began. “You could possibly never shortie. It seems u mad u got curved, but ur ‘friends’ r the reason 4 that. Dey showed me an endless thread of txt/pics of me dat u sent, wrry’d abt who i date &BEGGED me 2 not further disturb ur mental instability,” he continued.

As fans started to suggest that he had misinterpreted Palmer’s tweet, the “Make It Home” crooner posted another tweet where he defended himself. “Imagine not knowing how to mind the business that pay you. I catch all the subliminals. (Not just about today) & you can call me whatever you like, Mess is constantly inserting yourself in topics you have nun to do w/. Go play w/ ya MAMMY! Not me!” he wrote.

He didn’t elaborate on the supposed subliminals, but after Pinkett Smith came clean on Red Table Talk, Palmer posted a tweet about “boundaries” that many people believe was in reference to their fling.

“If you have something to say, say it w/ ya CHEST kids,” August Alsina wrote in a follow-up tweet. “It’s always very perplexing cause I real deal be showing people genuine love. Whole time that envy eating ya lil heart. Anyway, NEXT!!”

When a fan teased him about exposing both Palmer and Pinkett Smith, August Alsina disagreed. “I actually f*cked w/ KeKe,” he claimed. “So to see her covertly speaking subliminal shade around my name over the past week Is deeply perplex. I don’t and never have had a problem w/ the girl. It’s always been Virgo love! So to see that is a mind f*ck to me.”

August Alsina’s comments about Keke Palmer left her feeling ‘attacked’

Palmer later shared an Instagram post where she admitted that she felt “attacked.” However, she vowed not to retaliate, explaining she didn’t want to kick “someone when they are down.”

“I wanna be mean, but I can’t,” she said. “I want to post screenshots, but I won’t. I feel attacked, but It’s not about me. It’s about so much more than that and as much as I want to defend myself against the disrespect I have received(cause I mean I’m not nice all the time 😜) this is about something so much bigger. I wouldn’t feel good kicking someone when they are down because it’s so easy to attack when you’re in a corner, I get it.”

“People be hurting y’all and most of the time it has nothing to do with you,” she continued. “I can’t f*ck up my karma worried about my ego, though I’m human and I have one. Just know I am that b*tch despite what my humility may make one believe. I don’t have to beg or be thirsty for a damn thing because my talent speaks louder than my looks. Let the cheek be turned pooh’s, my character is too strong.”

“And guess what?? I love y’all. Y’all had my back since Cedric The Entertainer burnt my burger,” she continued on Twitter, referencing a scene with the comedian in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business. As of writing, it’s the latest update in the saga between them — and hopefully, the last.
