Why Kim Kardashian West Was Once ‘Concerned’ About Kanye West Running for President
In addition to good friend Elon Musk, the rapper’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, also showed support for his decision. But despite backing up his plans to run for president of the United States, the reality star previously shared her reservations about the rapper launching his presidential campaign.
Kanye West announces his presidential run
On July 4, West took to Twitter to make his big announcement, writing, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”
The rapper’s post comes a few years after he first hinted at his intention to run for president during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. While wrapping up his acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award, West announced his 2020 presidential bid in front of everyone.
However, the following year, West seemingly delayed his plans to run for office in 2020 by simply tweeting, “2024,” which is when the next presidential election will take place.
In 2019, the “Heartless” rapper further confirmed his future political plans while attending the Fast Company Innovation Festival.
“When I run for President in 2024,” he said as the audience began laughing. “What y’all laughing at? We would create so many jobs! I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”
Kim Kardashian West previously had reservations about her husband’s political plans
Although Kim Kardashian West was among the many people who publically expressed their support for West’s run for president, she previously shared her concern about the rapper going through with this idea.
A year after her husband announced he was running for president at the MTV VMAs, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star told Wonderland Magazine that she was worried that her past could come back to haunt her if West launched his presidential campaign.
“Look at all the awful things they’re doing to Melania [Trump], putting up the naked photos [of her],” she told the magazine. “I’ll say to Kanye: ‘Babe, you know the kind of photos they’d put up of me!”
Kim Kardashian West is ‘supportive’ of Kanye’s decision
Despite being concerned about her husband’s run for president, Kardashian West is backing his decision to go forward with his political plans.
Though she’s likely still hesitant about West launching his presidential campaign, the KKW Beauty mogul knows how important this is to him and plans to stick by his side through it all.
“Kanye has been planning this for years and Kim has known about his aspirations and has been supportive,” a source recently told Us Weekly. “Kanye is passionate about arts and education and wants to support in any way he can.”
