Why Maddox Jolie-Pitt Reportedly Doesn’t See Himself As Brad Pitt’s Son
Out of all of his children, Brad Pitt’s relationship with Maddox Jolie-Pitt is reportedly the worse. Following their shocking breakup in 2016, inside sources claim that the relationship between Pitt and Maddox is basically non-existent. Although the divorce could be to blame for the rift, sources say that the real reason they are not close is that Maddox does not see himself as Pitt’s son.
Inside Pitt’s relationship with Maddox
The fractured relationship between Brad Pitt and Maddox first came to light in the weeks following the World War Z star’s divorce from Angelina Jolie. Pitt allegedly got into a fight with Maddox while the family was on board a private plane. The incident happened sometime in 2016 and was reportedly the catalyst that made Jolie file for divorce. Pitt was investigated for child abuse at the time and later cleared of any charges.
According to Elle, inside sources claim that Pitt’s relationship with Maddox never healed, and the couple’s oldest son does not view Pitt as his father.
“Maddox doesn’t really see himself as Brad’s son,” a source shared.
Jolie originally adopted Maddox in the early 2000s, several years before she started dating Pitt. In 2006, Brad Pitt filed paperwork to make Maddox his son as well. Another source noted that, while Maddox and Pitt are not close, the young man’s relationship with Jolie is stronger than ever.
Jolie and Pitt battled for custody over their six children in the years following their split. Although the two have worked out a custody agreement, it does not sound like Maddox wants anything to do with Pitt.
Brad Pitt hopes to repair his relationship with Maddox
Maddox recently confirmed that he is going to attend South Korea’s Yonsei University, an institution based out of Seoul. While Maddox prepares to go to college, sources say that he still has “resentment” towards Pitt.
During the most recent Christmas holiday, for example, Maddox declined to go over Brad Pitt’s house to open presents with his other siblings, Shiloh, Zahara, Vivienne, and Knox. Pax also skipped out on the festivities, though his refusal was more to do with being a teenager than anything else.
In light of Maddox’s behavior, Pitt is reportedly doing everything in his power to repair their relationship. Things are not looking good at the moment, but Pitt hopes that as Maddox matures, they can make amends and move forward.
Until then, it looks like Maddox is content with giving Brad Pitt the cold shoulder, though that might change after a few years of college and living abroad.
“Brad’s hopeful that as his son gets older, they’ll become close again,” an insider dished.
Pitt did not help Maddox select a college
With their relationship in shambles, it comes as no surprise that Pitt was not involved in the process of selecting a college for Maddox. While Jolie was instrumental in helping Maddox visit campuses around the world, Pitt was left completely in the dark.
In fact, insiders claim that the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star had no idea Maddox had picked a college until he heard the news from the media. Brad Pitt was not even invited to bring Maddox to Seoul, something most parents normally view as a big milestone.
Pitt reportedly was not surprised by what happened with Maddox. While the actor tries his best to make things right, Jolie has allegedly urged Maddox to spend more time with his father. Sources say the actress hopes that Maddox and Pitt can put their past behind them and forge a new journey together.
The former couple has not commented on the rumors surrounding Maddox. They only recently moved forward with their divorce settlement and were granted single status by a judge.
There is no telling what will happen between Pitt and Maddox moving forward. Following the plane incident and divorce, Pitt underwent therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous. The actor has remained sober for the better part of two years now, with the hope of proving to his family that he is a changed man.
We can only hope that Brad Pitt and Maddox will be able to make amends at some point in the future, though they definitely have their work cut out for them.
