Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are So Hard for the Royal Family to Control
Being royal is a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, it comes with its highs, like fame, money, and constant adoration. But it also comes with a tremendous amount of hardships. Your life is dictated by the country. You can never choose what you want to do and you always have to remain poised and proper in public.
For most of the royal family, maintaining a public persona is not difficult. They’ve never known life any other way. But for newcomers, this can be hard. Especially in Meghan Markle’s case. As an American, she didn’t even grow up learning much about the royals or witnessing their traditions. So, she had to completely start from scratch when she married into the family.
Markle’s problem in the media
Markle has had a tough go in the media. No matter what she does, it never seems to be the right thing. When she attended Wimbledon, people criticized her for wearing jeans. When she met Beyonce, people talked about her for hugging the singer.
Markle’s most recent faux pas occurred when she and Prince Harry traveled to France for vacation in a private jet. The public bashed the royal couple so badly that singer Elton John had to take to social media to clarify that the trip was a gift from him.
“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”

“I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”
Backlash on the royal family
Unfortunately, Prince Harry and Markle’s trip cast a negative light on the entire royal family.
“[The couple’s recent behavior is] a public relations disaster for Buckingham Palace, who are having a hard time reining them in,” royals author Lady Colin Campbell, told Page Six.
Why can’t the royal family reign Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in?
Before his marriage, Prince Harry had his own troubles in the media, but now it seems that things have gotten worse.
“Meghan is clearly calling the shots, but she’s a minor operator who is playing in the big leagues and mucking it up in the most catastrophic fashion,” Campbell continued.
As a new royal, Markle is probably unaware of how all of her actions will be perceived by the public. Hopefully, as time goes on, she and Harry will find a way to live their lives without receiving such harsh public backlash.
