Why Meghan Markle Had To Leave So Quickly From Her First Royal Engagement In Months
Meghan Markle had to leave the first royal engagement she’s had in months sooner than expected — and the reason behind her swift departure is pretty sweet. The Duchess of Sussex has been on maternity leave since giving birth to her son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May. Over the weekend, the former actress stepped out into public to launch her new capsule collection with Smart Works. It was great to see Markle back in action, but some royal watchers were disappointed when the new mom had to exit in a rush.
Why did Markle leave her first royal engagement in months?
Meghan Markle’s event was held in London to launch her new lineup of business clothes and accessories. At the engagement, Markle took time to mingle with some of the guests when she was overheard mentioning why she needed to get home quickly.
According to Express, Markle left the royal event early so that she could go home and feed Archie. The former Suits star was apparently in a time crunch and, being the good mother that she is, did not want baby Archie to go hungry for any length of time.
“I’ve got to get back to the baby, it’s feed time,” Markle reportedly shared.
The event took place at the John Lewis department store, which is located on Oxford Street in London. Markle rocked a few pieces from her capsule collection at the engagement, including a shirt and trousers. She also wore butterfly earrings that used to belong to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
Before leaving the event in a rush, Markle spoke a few words of encouragement to the crowd. Markle explained the importance of doing charitable work, even if you do not get to see the benefits firsthand.
Meghan Markle is adjusting nicely to life as a mom
Markle and Harry welcomed their first child this past spring and seem happier than ever to start a family. In fact, inside sources claim that Markle absolutely loves being a mom and has gotten into a nice routine with the baby.
Prince Harry and Markle, of course, have a nanny at the house who helps them with everyday chores. Although the two had a rough go adjusting to a new sleep schedule, the source says that they have finally gotten the hang of it.
The couple, who tied the knot last year, is currently gearing up to tour South Africa. The trip will mark their first as a family of three, and the two are going to visit several countries over the span of a few weeks. Meghan Markle is even planning on wearing some of the items from her capsule collection at some point during the tour.
Markle joins forces with her best friend
Markle had a lot of help designing the different elements of her capsule collection. To help craft a lineup that fits together nicely and drew plenty of support, she turned to her best friend, Misha Nonoo.
Nonoo, who has been Markle’s friend for years, was on hand for the launch event in London. The British designer did not say if she spent time with Markle and her family outside of the public engagement, but there is a good chance that she got to see baby Archie before flying back to New York.
Nonoo was one of the people who first introduced Markle to Harry and holds a special place in her heart. When it comes to her new clothing lineup, Nonoo admitted that she is very proud of what Markle has accomplished since joining the ranks of the royal family.
Meghan Markle is giving back with her collection
Markle’s new initiative with Smart Works aims to help women around the world learn the skills necessary to land a job — including giving them affordable things to wear during an interview. Her collection features a range of different items, such as a blazer, a tote bag, a shirt, and pants.
The partnership also includes a nice benefit for Smart Works. For every piece Markle sells, she has promised to donate the same item to Smart Works.
Over the years, Smart Works has helped over 11,000 women succeed in job interviews and find good employment, making it a perfect collaboration with Markle.
