Why Meghan Markle Has Become a ‘More Powerful’ Royal Family Member Since Archie’s Birth
Has the media softened on Meghan Markle since she and Prince Harry welcomed their first baby, Archie? Markle is said to be a “media darling royal” now and has even become “more powerful,” at least according to one royal historian.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are fan favorites
Despite the fact that Markle has been often criticized by the media, there’s no denying that Prince Harry and Markle are fan favorites. From their romance to their marriage, and now the arrival of their first baby, the world has watched the couple fall in love and grow their family.
Even though constant rumors of feuding plague them in one way or another (Prince Harry and Prince William’s rift and/or the duchesses not getting along), the couple manages to ignore all the gossip and rise above any trolling from haters.
Is Markle a ‘powerful’?
Royal historian Anna Whitelock claims that Markle “holds all the cards” in the relationship, noting that she has become “more powerful” since the baby’s arrival and that the royal family should “take due hold” of the Duchess of Sussex’s popularity.
Whitelock explained during a segment of Yahoo’s The Royal Box: “Meghan now is in a more powerful position than she has yet been since she joined the Royal Family. She is married to Harry, he clearly dotes on her and adores her, she clearly has a great deal of influence over him.”
She added: “She’s now the media darling royal and she has a baby, as well. She holds all the cards now. Meghan is incredibly powerful and the Royal Family know that or if they don’t know that, they should take due hold of that.”
Markle isn’t the most popular royal, but she does rank high
While Markle doesn’t top the list as the most popular royal family members, she does come in sixth, according to YouGov and the 8,954 interviews that were conducted between June 2018 and June 2019.
The most popular member of the royal family is the Queen, with 72 percent of public positive opinion, with Prince Harry at 71 percent, and Prince Wiliam at 69 percent. Katte Middleton and Prince Philip ranked just above Markle at fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Markle made her first outing since Archie’s arrival for the Queen’s official birthday at Trooping the Colour in London, where she rode in a carriage with Prince Harry, Middleton, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
There seemed to be much less media scrutiny of Markle at the event, with mostly positive commentary about her outfit of choice for the day, the new ring she sported, and her general happy glow.
There was the inevitable gossip about a feud, as Prince Harry and Markle stood on the opposite side of the balcony at the event and to the back, while Prince William and Middleton had a more prominent position.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, shared with PEOPLE magazine the reason behind this, noting: “She (Meghan) was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order. There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first] with his wife.”
