Why Meghan Markle ‘Needs to Stop Acting Like a Celebrity’ to Repair Her Relationship With the Public

Meghan Markle has been accused of acting too much like a celebrity on more than one occasion, but her recent demands for privacy have definitely left some people believing she needs to do a bit of damage repair. Her recent need for privacy while watching a Wimbledon match was definitely perceived as “tacky” and some royal fans think that perhaps her Hollywood background is part of the issue.

Is Markle getting a bad reputation?

At least one PR expert believes that Markle might want to soften her celebrity image a bit and repair her relationship with the public.

Anthony Burr, CEO of Burr Media, spoke with Express about how Prince Harry and Markle can make some adjustments to appeal to the public. Burr noted that they need to “work hard on repairing the damage” that their requests for privacy have created.

He explained: “Firstly, Meghan needs to stop acting like a celebrity who starred on TV and begin the process of learning to be a Duchess.” The PR expert further noted that Prince Harry has been too intent on “[making] sure his wife is as happy as she can be in her new surroundings,” adding, “He also needs her to appreciate that Royal Family members are the most public figures in the country, if not the world.”

Burr further shared: “If you want the splendors of the royal life, you have to make sacrifices — and privacy is the top of that list of sacrifices.”

He also noted that “It’s now time for Meghan to learn from her mistakes… and get the public back on side.”

Markle’s ban on Wimbledon photos was not well received

One of Markle’s more recent attempts at securing privacy was seen at a Wimbledon tennis match she attended, where she reportedly banned people from taking photos of her.

One of her security guards warned tennis fans that they couldn’t take her picture because she was there “in a private capacity.”

Actress Tatum O’Neal, for one, wasn’t impressed, as she told Good Morning Britain: “If you think of Princess Diana, and how absolutely inclusive she was, and she would never turn anyone away. I had so much hope for Meghan — I wanted her to be the next Princess Diana.”

She added, “It seems like it’s all about her. It’s really upsetting me. To have a bodyguard to muscle somebody out, I just think it’s so tacky.”

Is her behavior ‘driving people nuts’?

Similarly, Piers Morgan had something to say about Markle as well, noting: “If you go to Wimbledon… in the best seats in the house for nothing and you take your two bezzies…. you’re public people.”

He continued: “If you want to be private, go back to America and live privately.”

Morgan later remarked: “I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve. She wants all the good stuff and she’s behaving like a Hollywood actress. She wants to have her cake and eat it and it’s driving people nuts.”

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace defended Markle, at the time noting: “It is not unusual for people accompanying Members of the Royal Family at private, or public, engagements to ask members of the public not to take photographs. This is to enable Members of the Royal Family to properly engage with people and events.”
