Why Nicki Minaj Is Thankful for Wendy Williams
Nicki Minaj and Wendy Williams are two somewhat unlikely friends. They did not always see things eye to eye in the past, and Williams occasionally made negative remarks about Minaj on her talk show. However, in an unexpected move, Minaj and Williams are on the same side about an issue. In fact, Minaj is very thankful for Williams these days. Find out why below.
Nicki Minaj is dating someone with a criminal past
Minaj’s reputation has not been looking too good these past few months. In December 2018, it was revealed that Minaj was hooking up with a new boyfriend — Kenneth “Zoo” Petty — and the guy has a slew of criminal convictions against him.
In 1994, Petty, who was 16 years old at the time, attempted to force sexual intercourse with a girl by using a “knife/cutting instrument.” He was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 and sentenced to jail. Petty also had to register as a sex offender. He is listed as being on Level 2, which means that he has a “moderate risk of offending.”
Petty has other crimes on his list as well. In 2002, he allegedly killed someone with a gun in Queens, New York, and was charged with first-degree manslaughter. He ended up serving seven years in prison for the murder.
Nevertheless, Minaj and Petty seem to be getting very serious. The two of them recently got a marriage license and Minaj even refers to him sometimes as her “husband.”
While some fans think that the couple is moving a little fast, Minaj and Petty have reportedly known each other for a long time. “Nicki and Kenneth dated when she was a teenager, before she was famous,” a source told Us Weekly.
Nicki Minaj defended her relationship
Minaj has no doubt received a lot of comments from onlookers for dating a man with a checkered past. However, she often makes a point to defend her boyfriend and her relationship.
When she was said to be “lowering standards”, Minaj clapped back on her Queen Radio show: “When a person is with a n***a that loved them before they had a dime in their pocket How do you not understand that? How do you not understand happiness versus clout? How f****** dare you talk about lowering standards.”
At another time, Minaj also defended her beau to a fan who commented about Petty’s attempted rape case. “He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship,” the rapper said. “But go awf Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”
Back in June, Minaj also tweeted about how she and Petty go way back. “He won’t even say the word ‘Nicki,'” she shared. “He has called me Onika since I was 15 so it’s hard to change that. I wouldn’t date anyone cuz I’m about to be married to my soulmate. But that was the problem, others r infatuated w/ Nicki Minaj he DGAF about this industry & is very protective.”
Wendy Williams has stood up for Nicki Minaj
Another person who is on Minaj’s side is Williams. She has talked about Minaj many times on her show, so it was not surprising that she brought up Minaj’s love life on The Wendy Williams Show recently. She showed her audience the audio clip of Minaj on Queen Radio and, in response, Williams said, “I agree.”
Williams also elaborated by telling her audience: “This woman has amassed a fortune and she’s very famous and no matter what you have, when you turn the key to your abode and there’s no one there but crickets, it’s not all good.”
Minaj acknowledged Williams’ words and tweeted: “Thank you Wendy.”
