Why Nobody Feels Sorry for Kim Kardashian’s Lack of Privacy
Kim Kardashian is famous for being famous, and that has understandably left her staring down at a lot of critics. She recently opened up about her life in the spotlight in an interview for Vogue Arabia. The interview—conducted by her husband, Kanye West—touches on many elements of Kardashian’s personal life, offering an up-close look at how she handles the fame and what is most important to her.
During her interview, Kardashian voiced some frustration with the lack of privacy afforded her. Is the pressure of constant attention enough to make her regret her time in the spotlight? And are fans likely to feel sympathetic about her life under a microscope?
Kim Kardashian has been in the spotlight most of her adult life
Kardashian’s family was making headlines when she was only a child because her father served as one of OJ Simpson’s defense attorneys. Kardashian, herself, however, only became a household name when a sex tape she made with then-beau Ray J leaked to the public. She was also hanging around with socialites like Paris Hilton and, in turn, getting lots of time in the tabloids.
In 2007, the entire family entered into the fame game with the television reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The show follows the day-to-day lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family and showcases their wealth and extravagant lifestyle and their interpersonal dramas. The show is still on the air, making it one of the longest-running reality series.
In 2014, Kardashian married Kanye West, ensuring that the spotlight on her life would be even more intensified. West, a controversial and attention-seeking figure in his own right, has placed even more attention on Kardashian and their growing family.
Fame and influence make Kim Kardashian a lot of money
Fame is not just a side effect of Kardashian’s career. It is her career. She uses her considerable influence to charge enormous fees for sponsored social media posts, fashion choices, and social appearances. With nearly 150 million Instagram followers, Kardashian is one of the most far-reaching influencers in the world, and she leverages her fame into huge paychecks. She also uses it to promote her own brands and those of her family members.
Kim Kardashian doesn’t regret the fame even if she misses her privacy
In the Vogue interview, Kardashian made it clear that she doesn’t regret her life spent seeking attention. She revealed: “Money was always the goal but I was obsessed with fame, like, embarrassingly obsessed . . . I do agree that fame can be addictive.”
Despite this, she doesn’t regret her choices: “Even in my darkest of times I don’t regret putting myself out there for the world to see. People have shared with me over the years how much it has helped them to feel less alone when dealing with their own adversity. I love having a voice and I appreciate the platform that I have been given, even though I do wish I could have more privacy at times.”
Kardashian may have wished for more privacy, but it’s unlikely that fans are going to be very sympathetic to her situation. After all, Kardashian has intentionally sought out that attention and profited from it immensely. Even after growing her family, she has included her children in many of her social media posts, creating a fan culture surrounding them as well as herself.
While the star has suggested that she’d like to step back from the spotlight in order to focus on her burgeoning legal career, it is difficult to ignore that she’s been utilizing the influence of her fame as part of her legal advocacy efforts. While she may truly be working on a new legal skillset with a serious focus, it’s hard to imagine that her fame will not follow her there.
