Why People Are Outraged Over Princess Zombie Halloween Costume Sold By Kate Middleton’s Family
There is a new scandal involving Kate Middleton‘s family that has people across the pond outraged and it all has to do with a Halloween costume.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s family owns a business called Party Pieces, which sells supplies and decorations for holidays and other events. With Halloween coming up you can find many costumes on the company’s website but a zombie-inspired one has rubbed some people the wrong way.
The costume that caused the controversy is called the Zombie Sleeping Princess. The outfit comes with a tiara and a long dress stained in blood. One side of the gown shows what is supposed to be the princess’ guts. The description for the costume on the site reads, “This not-so-pretty-princess costume features a blood-drenched pink silky dress. The top includes a gruesome print of the poor zombie princess’ ribcage and organs. This princess will be the scariest princess at any Halloween party.”
While some thought of it as nothing more than a ghoulish outfit, others found it insensitive and linked it to Princess Diana who died following a car crash in 1997.

“This is sicker than sick,” Diana’s friend, Simone Simmons, told the Daily Star. “I hope people boycott this site. There are plenty of other places for better Halloween costumes. This is really scraping the barrel. It’s twisted and warped.”
“This is in very poor taste,” said royal author and editor in chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward.
Some royal fans sounded off as well on social media tweeting that the costume is “outrageous” and asking why the Middletons would “sell a costume like that with the word ‘princess’ in the title?”
Not everyone agreed that it was offensive though and most people said they did not even think of the late princess when they saw it. However, amid the backlash, the costume was removed from the Party Pieces website.
In 1987, Carole and Michael Middleton started their party supply business which began by making party bags. It ended up growing substantially and now sells supplies and decorations by mail order. Party Pieces was also the first job the Duchess of Cambridge had after she graduated from college.
Carole marked the company’s 30th anniversary in 2017 with a blogpost about how she and her husband first came up with the idea when “There was very little partyware available on the high street, and finding the simplest of things was a real challenge. I produced a flyer which I circulated in playgroups and very soon I was using our garden shed as a packing room and office.”
The company the Middletons started now employs around 40 people and sends out over 4,000 orders every week. Today, Party Pieces is extremely successful and is estimated to be worth between $30 and $50 million.
