Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, has experienced her fair share of harsh publicity and haters on social media. From her sojourn as a popular actress on Suits to her new life as a royal with her husband Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has definitely been through the ups and downs of fame. However, the beautiful duchess has been experiencing a new level of scrutiny, much of it not so kind, ever since she announced that she and Prince Harry are expecting a baby

Why are people hating on Meghan Markle?

As with any normal pregnancy, Meghan Markle started showing around the five-six month mark. Photos of her out with Prince Harry show a small baby bump, snuggled in under her stylish wardrobe. While this should be a joyous occasion and the soon-to-be-parents are over the moon with excitement, the media hasn’t been so kind to the pregnant woman.

Everyone from haters on social media to various news publications has chastised Meghan Markle for her habit of perpetually cradling her baby bump. They claim that Markle is drawing too much attention to her pregnancy for various reasons and that the bump cradling is “annoying.”

They have even gone so far as to compare her pregnancy wardrobe to her sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s, claiming that Kate Middleton was more low-key about each of her three pregnancies and that Markle should follow her example.

Fans leap to Meghan Markle’s defense

While the haters came out in droves to point out what they didn’t like about Markle’s attitude towards her pregnancy, the good news is that even more people seem to be genuinely happy for the royal pair. Fans have pointed out that far from being an attention-seeker, Markle has been open about her desire to have children, and that she is overwhelmed with excitement.

Her holding her baby bump is both a natural protective response as well as what seems to be an excited reaction to the idea of welcoming a new baby. As many mothers can attest, holding the baby bump is a way to make it seem “real” in their minds.

From the very beginning of their engagement, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were open about their desire to have a family. Prince Harry grew up very close to his brother and mother and undoubtedly wants that same closeness with a family of his very own.

Meghan Markle, who at the age of 37 is considered of advanced maternal age, might have thought that at one point, she might never end up having children at all. No doubt the two of them are both truly excited about starting their brand new family.

A new royal baby

While the royal family is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new baby, the whole world is speculating about everything from the baby’s gender to what the little one’s name will be. According to royal tradition, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t reveal the gender until after the birth itself. Similarly, they won’t reveal any clues as to what the name might be.

Even with all the secrecy, fans have predicted that Duchess Meghan will give birth to a baby girl. To make the speculation even sweeter, Prince Harry apparently has his hopes up for a baby girl. Considering his tight relationship with his late mother, Princess Diana, a baby girl would likely bring he and Meghan Markle even closer together.

Meghan Markle’s official due date hasn’t been revealed, but all evidence would suggest that she will give birth in late April or early May of this year. It will surely be a joyous day for everyone involved – for nothing brings together disparate groups like a brand new baby.
