This Is Why Prince Charles Warned Meghan Markle Not To Wear A Tiara During Her First Overseas State Dinner

Meghan Markle has worked tirelessly to adjust to life as a member of the British Royal Family. The mom-to-be has left behind her career in acting and life as she knew it in the United States to stand by her husband, Prince Harry’s side and become a full time royal. Still, despite how seriously she’s taking her new royal role –Markle can’t seem to catch a break.

Almost as soon as the Duchess of Sussex said “I do,” trolls and critics have attacked everything from her attitude to her wardrobe, and even her decision to have a baby shower. Luckily, the royals, especially Prince Charles –have tried to make Meghan Markle’s transition as seamless as possible.

This is why Prince Charles warned Meghan Markle not to wear a tiara

Back in Oct. 2018 –shortly after announcing they were expecting their first child, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to Fiji on their first Royal Tour as a married couple. During their trip, Markle attended her very first overseas state dinner where she planned on wearing a tiara.

According to Daily Mail, Markle intended to borrow a tiara from the Royal Collection for the dinner. However, Prince Charles warned his daughter-in-law against it. He felt that it would be seen as “extravagant” and “reminiscent of a bygone era.” An insider told Daily Mail, “Meghan did not understand all of this because she was new to the role and so Prince Charles told her that it would not be appropriate…It was very kindly done.”

Luckily, Markle took her father-in-law’s advice seriously and decided to wear a stunning Fijian blue full-length cape dress by Safiyaa. The duchess paired the gown with some drop diamond earrings, and she still looked extremely royal even without a tiara.

Inside Meghan Markle and Prince Charles’ relationship

Meghan Markle and Prince Charles have already formed a very close bond. Prince Charles is so taken with Duchess Meghan Markle that he reportedly calls her “Teflon” which refers to someone who can withstand criticism or attack with no apparent effect. From the moment the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went public with their relationship the press has hounded the former actress.

Thankfully, Markle has handled the frenzy around her and her family drama with poise and grace. According to E! Online, “Prince Charles thinks she is charming and very bright, and Duchess Camilla believes Markle has made a great start in becoming a member of the family.” He is so pleased about the new addition to his family that the prince thinks Markle is the best thing to ever happened to his son. He even stepped in and walked Markle down the aisle at her wedding when her own father was not available.

Prince Charles’ marriage advice to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

In the documentary film, Prince Charles at 70 — filmmaker John Bridcut claims that Princre Charles reflected on his experience of his troubled marriage to Princess Diana, to become a solid supporter of the Duke and Duchess Of Sussex. Bridcut revealed the prince’s marital advice to his son and his new bride. He explained,

His approach would be that you just carry on doing the job. He wouldn’t have added to that. His attitude would be that some of the attacks he would feel were unfair. He would apply himself and just carry on doing the job and soldier on and that’s what he’s done and it’s borne fruit. Charles is being completely supportive – and could be seen in the very touching way in which he was involved in the wedding ceremony itself, which was sort of all quite understated. He doesn’t advertise this but he is a very sensitive man and I’ve seen that myself a lot.
