Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Could Retire From Royal Life For Baby Sussex
One of the most anticipated royal births ever has finally happened as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have welcomed a healthy baby boy.
Now, that their little one has arrived there’s been a ton of speculation about everything from what his name will be to if he will have a royal title. Many royal fans also have questions about the family’s future, and what the pair could be planning to do for their son has shocked a lot of people.
Here’s more what the child’s name could be, whether he’ll have a title, and the reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may retire from royal life for baby Sussex.
What they might name their son
U.K. bookies Ladbrokes and Sportsbet have been taking bets on what the baby boy’s name will be and so far the frontrunner is Arthur. The name is popular within the British royal family as the child’s grandfather Prince Charles’ full name is Charles Philip Arthur George. It’s also the middle name of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s youngest son, Louis Arthur Charles.
After Arthur, the other top picks are James and Albert. If the latter is chosen he would share a name with his father as Prince Harry’s full name is
Henry Charles Albert David.
Will the baby get a royal title?
Even though we don’t the child’s name yet, many have also speculated about if he will get a regal title like his parents and so many of his other family members.
The new baby is seventh in the line of succession to the throne but that doesn’t mean he’ll get a prince title. In fact, he may not have a title at all. It really depends on what Markle and Harry want to do.
“The child is not going to be the king … very doubtful. They may not even have a royal role going forward,” royal correspondent Robert Jobson told
Yahoo’s The Royal Box. “I know they are looking at the titles now — they may decide not to have a princely title.”
If the duke and duchess decide they don’t want a title for their child, they wouldn’t be the first royals to go that route.
When Queen Elizabeth’s daughter, Princess Anne, had her children Her Majesty offered to give them courtesy titles since they were not entitled to royal status by birth. However, the Princess Royal declined that offer and their non-royal status actually allowed them to pursue other career opportunities.
Why Markle and Harry might retire from royal life for their child?
Jobson said that he believes Markle and the prince will also reject any title and retire from royal life so their son can forge his own career path as well.
“Meghan and Harry in 10 years time, when the focus will be on the Cambridge children and the Cambridges, may decide they want to settle in the West Coast and not be part of all this,” he said, adding that Harry had previously discussed plans to leave his royal life behind.
“He found a degree of freedom when he was in the military but the truth of it is, he was looking for things he’d rather be doing,” Jobson explained. “…I personally think he’s a free spirit, Harry, and I’m sure that’s probably what he wants for his children.”
Royal fans will just have to wait and see what the Sussex’s decide to do.
