Why Didn’t Prince Harry Attend Meghan Markle’s New York City Baby Shower?

Meghan Markle recently took some time away from her royal duties to head back to the States and attend a lavish baby shower thrown by her best friends. The Duchess of Sussex is expecting her little one to arrive in late April or early May 2019, but that didn’t stop Markle from hopping on a plane and enjoying some much-needed rest and relaxation with her best girlfriends.

The duchess arrived in the Big Apple just after Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 15 and she stayed for five days. She took the time to have macarons and tea at Ladurées in SoHo with her best friend, Jessica Mulroney. She also met with her friends Markus Anderson, Serena Williams, Misha Nonoo and Abigail Spencer for a lovely dinner at the Polo Bar. But why didn’t Markle’s husband, Prince Harry attend her baby shower in NYC?

The real reason Prince Harry wasn’t at Meghan Markle’s NYC baby shower

Prince Harry is not on paternity leave just yet, and while his wife was able to slip away before their final pre-baby Royal Tour to Morocco–the Duke of Sussex still has a very full schedule. The prince spent the last several days at various events including some time with school children to support the StreetGames “Fit and Fed” initiative. According to Kensington Palace, “Fit and Fed” seeks to give “children and young people free access to activity sessions and a nutritious lunch during school holidays.”

Not only did the duke serve the kiddos a healthy lunch– he also chatted with them and watched them as they jumped around on a trampoline and learned jiu-jitsu moves. We think it’s a pretty good reason to skip a baby shower especially since Prince Harry’s presence in NYC with his wife would have only caused more chaos.

Inside Meghan Markle’s New York baby shower

While her hubby was working in London, Markle’s friends were throwing her a plush baby shower fit for a royal. Hosted and planned by Jessica Mulroney –the shower was held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at The Mark Hotel on NYC’s Upper East Side. The guest list included 15 of the former actress’ closest friends. An insider told BAZAAR.com,

The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves. This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments. It’s been a relaxing visit. Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed-and with a lot of new baby clothes.

Markle’s friend and former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer showed up to the shower with a gift wrapped in blue paper, and now everyone thinks Markle and Prince Harry are having a baby boy! Still, from what we know, the duke and duchess have decided not to find out the sex of their baby.
