Why Prince William and Prince Harry Won’t Mend Their Relationship Anytime Soon, According to Royal Expert
Prince Harry and Prince William may be on better terms now than they were when Harry admitted they were feuding, but they’re not out of the woods yet. Former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter thinks the two brothers will never make peace until they are both reunited in the U.K.
Prince Harry confessed that they were feuding
In a 2019 interview for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry admitted that the rumors of a feud with Prince William were true. Though he indicated there was tension between the two of them there was also some assurance that, as brothers, you have “good days and bad days,” implying that they hadn’t had a total falling out.
“Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens,” Prince Harry explained at the time.
He added, “But, look, we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”
He also admitted that, despite being “so busy” with their lives, “I love him dearly. The majority of stuff is created out of nothing.”
Prince William and Prince Harry have been reconnecting
After Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex made their exit from the royal family, many fans were eager to see if the distance would create more of a strain on Harry and William’s relationship. It was soon reported that the brothers had been in regular touch with Zoom calls so that Prince William could keep tabs on his brother.
“William finds Zoom a good, informal way of keeping in touch, and some would say ‘tabs’, on his younger brother,” a source shared with Fabulous. “There have been several zoom calls. It’s easy to set up and involves no awkward scheduling.”
The calls are reportedly casual, with a friend close to the brothers explaining, “William is very anxious to keep the calls low key and casual. Just two brothers have a chat. No-one else is involved. It takes the pressure off.”
Will they ever settle their feud?
While reports of the brothers improving their communication recently seem promising that they’ll mend the rift between them, Arbiter told Us Weekly’s Royally Us that he’s not sure they will reconcile completely until Prince Harry is back in the U.K.
“I hope they settle their rift because there shouldn’t be bad blood amongst brothers, particularly those two brothers who went through such trauma together [with the] death of their mother, [Princess Diana],” Arbiter said on the podcast.
He added, “They’ve been through a lot, and they’ve carried each other, and they’ve supported each other. And to have a rift is not healthy in any family. So I hope they are getting back together again.”
Arbiter believes that the distance might not be doing them any favors in healing things. “Harry being in Los Angeles and William and Catherine being in the United Kingdom, [there’s] a great big ocean, a lot of land between, and it’s not going to be broached until such time they actually get together [and Harry comes] back to the U.K.,” he explained.
“That’s the million-dollar question. So if they’re talking on the phone, well, that’s a step in the right direction, but it would be nice if they could actually meet up.”
