Why Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Won’t Have a Prenup
Princess Eugenie and her fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, are set to tie the knot on Oct. 12, 2018, and just about all of their wedding plans are now in place. One thing the pair won’t have in place though is a prenuptial agreement.
While the world waits to hear more details about the royal affair, we know that the princess’ big day will be quite different from Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle. However, Eugenie and Brooksbank are following in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s footsteps by forgoing a prenup. Prince Harry did not ask Markle to sign one when they wed back in May and there’s a good reason for that.
Here’s more on that plus the specific attire Eugenie expects Markle and Kate Middleton to be in when they attend her royal wedding.
Most royals don’t have prenups
When it comes to prenups, they’re not very common in the U.K. especially not with royals. In fact, it’s not only Harry and Markle who do not have one but also Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge as well as all four of Queen Elizabeth II’s children.
Even though three of those four marriages ended in divorce none of them had a prenuptial agreement drawn up. When Eugenie’s own parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, split they simply reached a financial settlement.
Katie Nicholl, author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, explained that prenups in the country are typically only done with celebrities. “It’s commonplace with celebrity marriages, but this is not a celebrity marriage, it’s a royal marriage,” she told Town & Country.
The queen’s wealth is not at stake
Another reason Eugenie and many other royals don’t bother with prenups is because it’s not like the entire family’s enormous wealth and properties are at stake since the bulk of that belongs to the queen.
“You wouldn’t need a prenuptial agreement to stop Windsor Castle from being cut in half in the event [of a] divorce,” royal biographer Duncan Larcombe said.
Eugenie’s wealth and net worth
Eugenie has a net worth of over $4 million. She has worked at an art gallery for the past few years, but most of her wealth is primarily from a trust fund set up for her by the late Queen Mother.
As for Brooksbank, instead of going to college he decided to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. Today, he is the European Manager for Casamigos Tequila, a company that was founded by George Clooney and Rande Gerber. However, Brooksbank’s earnings and net worth have not been disclosed publicly.
Dress code for Markle and Middleton
The Duchesses have been advised that they, like all female attendees, are expected to wear more conservative dresses and fascinators to the princess’ wedding.
The dress code was announced on all the wedding invitations along with a requirement for male guests as well. They have been asked to wear morning suits.
Eugenie and Brooksbank will be saying “I Do” in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, which is the same location where Harry and Markle’s wedding took place.
