This Is Why Priyanka Chopra Never Thought She Would Marry Nick Jonas
In 2017 when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas stepped out in public as a couple, everyone was shocked. The stunning Indian actress was known for her serious role on Quantico –and well into her 30s, she seemed much more mature than the cute boy bander whom we’ve watched grow before our eyes.
Jaws dropped even further when Chopra and Jonas got engaged in July 2018 –tying the knot in December of that same year in a frenzy of stunning wedding events and parties. While we may have been stunned by the Miss World 2000 winner tying the knot with the Jonas brother –no one is more shocked than Priyanka Chopra herself.
Why didn’t Priyanka Chopra think she would ever marry Nick Jonas?
With an acclaimed drama series behind her, and as one of India’s highest-paid and most famous celebrities –Priyanka Chopra wasn’t thinking about romance. She certainly wasn’t thinking about marrying someone ten years her junior. When she and Nick Jonas started dating –she never imagined that they’d ever become husband and wife. While speaking at Tina Brown’s 10th Annual Women in the World Summit –the Isn’t It Romantic actress revealed,
I’ve known him for two years. I didn’t think that this is what it [would’ve] turned out to be, and that’s maybe that’s my fault, I judged a book by its cover. When I actually started dating Nick, he surprised me so much. I call him ‘Old Man Jonas.’ That’s my name for him, ‘OMJ.’ He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much. I’m a wild child, I do whatever I want whenever I want and he always supports me.
How did Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas meet?
The actress and singer didn’t exactly meet the old-fashion way. Apparently, Jonas had a crush on Chopra, so he decided to shoot his shot by sliding into her Twitter DMs. Chopra responded by giving Jonas her phone number, and they began a several months long flirtation over text. In 2017 –the pair attended the Met Gala as friends because they both were wearing Ralph Lauren. Chopra told Jimmy Kimmel at the time, “We were both wearing Ralph Lauren, and we decided to go together, and it was fun.” Shortly thereafter their relationship blossomed into more.
What was Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ first date like?
Though they had been heavily flirting for some time –Chopra and Jonas’ first date wasn’t exactly rated-X. The duo had drinks at the Carlyle in New York, and then Jonas hung out with Chopra and her mom at her apartment. The married couple told Vogue that they didn’t even share a kiss on that first date. Instead, the “Sucker” singer patted his now-wife on the back as he left her place.
When did Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra get engaged?
Though Chopra wasn’t so sure at first –Jonas always knew the actress was the one for him. When they met face-to-face for the first time at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party in 2017–Jonas got down on his knees and gushed, “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?”
The following year on July 18, 2018 –Chopra’s 36th birthday –Jonas got down on one knee and proposed with a $200,000 cushion cut weighing around 4 carats from Tiffanys while they were vacationing in Crete. He told Vogue, “I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me? No joke—she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence.” (Chopra says she was speechless.) Jonas continued. “I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”
