We Finally Know Why Queen Elizabeth Liked Meghan Markle So Much From the Start

When Prince Harry first introduced Meghan Markle to the family, it was reported that the queen instantly took a liking to her. Some thought the queen would disprove of Meghan, since she was from America and had already been through a divorce, but to everyone’s delight, the queen welcomed her with open arms. And it might finally be clear why.

Meghan and the queen have been close since day one

Things haven’t been easy for Meghan since marrying into one of the most famous families in the world, but it seems like Queen Elizabeth has done her best to make Meghan as comfortable as possible. Meghan and the queen reportedly developed an instant bond, since they share a love for pets and care a lot about public service.

The queen even invited Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, to tea at Buckingham Palace before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, clearly showing she cares about having a relationship with Meghan’s family.

The queen also adores Kate Middleton, though she reportedly didn’t at first

These days, Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton also have a very strong bond. But according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, that wasn’t always the case. Prince William reportedly hesitated in proposing to Kate because the queen didn’t approve of her work ethic. Kate comes from a lot of wealth, and once she graduated college, she didn’t immediately hold a job.

The queen reportedly had doubts that Kate was a good fit for the royal family, since the role is rigorous and requires a lot of dedication. Nearly 10 years later, though, Kate has obviously proven that she can handle being the wife of a future king.

The queen might have admired Meghan’s work ethic from the start

Meghan never had a problem with her work ethic; she had a strong one from the time she was young. The duchess had been busy with a successful acting career, and when she needed to make money, she did what she had to do. (People often bash Meghan for appearing on Deal or No Deal, but in reality, she was just determined to make a living for herself.)

Meghan also had a lot of dedication to public service even before meeting Harry, which was clear based on her charitable track record. And the queen likely didn’t have to worry about whether Meghan would continue to set an example.

She seems happy for Meghan and Harry, despite the drama

A lot has happened in the royal family since the start of 2020; Meghan and Harry left the family, and the royals are still working out the details. But despite it being the exit heard around the world, the queen genuinely seems to want her grandson and granddaughter-in-law to be happy.

When Harry and Meghan announced their exit, the queen released a statement saying that the two, plus Archie, will always be beloved members of the family. The queen knows she can’t hold them back, so she seems to have accepted their decision to leave as best as she could.
