Why the Royal Family ‘Hasn’t Done Enough to Protect’ Meghan Markle
There’s no denying that Meghan Markle faces more than the average person’s share of criticism. While the general response is to “just roll with it,” some believe that the royal family “hasn’t done enough to protect” Markle from the trolls of the world.
Markle was most recently criticized for how she held baby Archie
It would take the better part of the day to run down all of the times that Markle has been criticized, but taking a look at one of the most recent examples is proof enough that she’s up against a lot.
While attending a charity polo match to cheer on husband Prince Harry, many believed that Markle held Archie in an awkward fashion. Plenty of critics said she held the baby incorrectly and wasn’t safely supporting his head.
Parenting experts argued that Markle was holding her baby in a completely safe way and, upon further analysis, many agreed that the duchess appeared to be protecting Archie from the many cameras snapping photos of them.
She’s remarked how tough it is
Markle met singer and producer Pharrell Williams on the red carpet and he told the couple: “So happy for your union. Love is amazing. It’s wonderful. Don’t ever take that for granted, but what it means in today’s climate, I just wanted to tell you, it’s so significant for so many of us. Seriously. It’s significant. We cheer you guys on.”
Markle thanked him, noting, “They don’t make it easy.”
It’s believed that her small comment was a remark about the public and the media’s constant criticism about the duchess.
Has the Royal Family protected Markle enough?
The subject of Markle often being criticized came up on Yahoo’s Royal Box podcast, with expert Victoria Arbiter discussing how Americans “love the Royal Family,” noting, “With Meghan in there, they’re very proud — it’s one of their own behind Palace walls.”
Despite that, many fans believe that the Royal Family should do more to defend Markle. Arbiter explained: “They feel that the Royal Family hasn’t done enough to protect Meghan. And that is a theme that is developing.”
“They find it hard to understand the Royal Family’s philosophy of ‘we don’t say anything because all that does is perpetuate the story,'” Arbiter noted, adding, “There’s a sense there that she’s been under attack and that someone should have stood up and defended her.”
Prince Harry stood up for her before
Prince Harry was very protective of her privacy when they were dating, with his office issuing a statement at the time that said, in part: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.”
The statement further explained: “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes that fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly.”
