Why Taemin is in Every Teaser Trailer for SuperM’s Debut Album
SuperM’s debut album drops on Oct. 4, 2019. To promote the album, the group releases concept trailers and photos for fans. So far, SuperM released three different teaser trailers of Taeyong, Baekhyun, and Ten. Even though the trailers are for the individual members, Taemin appeared in every single one.
Taemin posed in the center of SuperM’s group photo
SuperM released a promotional photo of the group on Aug. 31, 2019. The black and white photo showed all seven members with Taemin standing in the center. After the photo came out, SuperM fans wondered if the members’ placements were significant.
A fan replied to the photo on Twitter saying, “Taemin looking like a powerful king he is.”
Taemin appeared in all three teaser trailers for SuperM
SuperM released the individual teaser trailers for Baekhyun, Taeyong, and Ten. Taemin appeared in each one. In Baekhyun’s trailer, Taemin is seen at the end dancing at the top of a set of stairs. Taeyong’s trailer was the second one released, and in it Taemin sits on a metal table while a roll of film plays. In Ten’s trailer, Taemin pulls Ten inside a painting.
SM Entertainment refers to SuperM as the “Avengers of K-pop.” Because each member of SuperM comes from an already established K-pop group, they act as the “Avengers of K-pop” when they join together in SuperM. The concept for the new album is futuristic and shows all of the members embodying superpowers.
Some fans developed theories about the group’s concept
Some fans theorize that in the concept for the first album, Taemin is the member that brings all of the artists, or heroes, together. In a Twitter thread, one fan theorized how Taemin connects all of the members in SuperM.
“taemin comes in every member’s teaser that was revealed (so far) and disrupts their little environment in a way to call them/recruit them,” they wrote.
The fan continued in the thread, “first member: baekhyun… a camera then comes in & taunts the light on him, tries to anger him. taemin get’s revealed in the end, the one behind it… second member: taeyong… and taemin disrupts his viewing… by the end, taemin hijacked the ‘cinema.'”
The most recent teaser trailer with Ten seems to confirm the fan’s theory. It shows Taemin blatantly interfering with Ten while the other trailers only revealed Taemin at the end.
“third member: ten… taemin destroys the flowers inside Renoir’s painting to lure ten to fix it, taemin was the woman inside the masterpiece, holding the umbrella,” the fan wrote on Twitter.
Taemin might be the leader of SuperM
Taemin is the second-oldest member of SuperM. Even though he is not the oldest, Taemin debuted the earliest because he debuted in 2008 with Shinee. This makes him the senior artist of the group. Taemin also has a lot of experience as a solo artist.
Because of this, there is a strong chance Taemin is the leader of SuperM. He appeared in every individual trailer as a catalyst, meaning his role in the concept and the group is important. If Taemin is the leader, he will most likely appear in the remaining SuperM trailers with his individual trailer dropping last.
