The Jonas Brothers are back together, but they had to do some work before reuniting. Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas had their ups and downs over the years. It turns out, they had to do some therapy before getting back together and here are the reasons why.

Back in 2013, the Jonas Brothers announced they were splitting up. Their rep revealed it was because there was “a deep rift within the band” and “there was a big disagreement over their music direction.”

One of the reasons that the split might have gotten messy is because all of the brothers weren’t on the same page about splitting up.

Joe Jonas talked about having to go to therapy and being angry about the split

Joe Jonas reportedly answered a fan’s question about why did the band split in a Reddit AMA in 2016. Then he brought up having to go to therapy to deal with it.

I was seeing a therapist and I wasn’t on speaking terms with my brothers,” wrote Joe Jonas. “When it happened, we were focusing on going on another tour and we had plans to hit the road and do what we had been doing for a while.”

He then wrote, “Nick brought it to the table that he wanted to focus on different things, like acting and doing music on his own. At first, it was really shocking to me because it was kind of all I had known was the Jonas Brothers, forever. So, I was pretty mad and confused because, I was like, I’ve been putting so much time and effort into this for so long and now I just have to stop and figure out what’s next.”

Eventually, Nick and Joe went their own ways to release music. Kevin Jonas got married to Danielle Deleasa and they had their own reality show, Married to Jonas.

They went to therapy to talk about what bothered them

The Jonas Brothers appeared on The Late Show with James Corden to talk about reuniting. Nick Jonas revealed the work they had to do before officially coming back.

“We literally spent a year basically doing therapy, working through some things, and figuring out what this chapter would look like,” he said. “We’ve had to be really open and honest. There are things in the past that bothered us from time to time, even in our performances that we would do.”

He also revealed that working on their documentary together inspired them to bring the band back. “It was gonna be a story about where we are today,” said Nick Jonas. “And that was, separate lives doing separate things — Joe with DNCE, and me with my solo stuff.”

What changed? “During that time, we started to realize there was a magic that we felt like we were missing,” he continued. “So the process was basically just, ‘Why don’t we give this another shot?’”

In the end, the brothers seemed to be on the outs because Nick Jonas wanted to go solo and Joe Jonas was hoping to keep the band together. Joe did therapy on his own, but in the end all of them did therapy together before reuniting.
