There are plenty of twenty-something actresses on the rise right now. But Zoey Deutch is something special — and her A-list co-stars agree. Here’s what they had to say when asked about the in-demand starlet.
Who is Zoey Deutch?
Deutch is a talented young actress. She also had a natural inclination toward show business — her mother is Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Switched at Birth) and her father is director Howard Deutch (Pretty In Pink). In addition, her older sister, Madelyn, is also an actress.
You may recognize Deutch from her early days on the Disney Channel in The Suite Life on Deck, as well as other series like the short-lived CW drama Ringer. She has also been in quite a few films, including Beautiful Creatures, Before I Fall, and the hit Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up.
She’s in ‘The Politician’ and ‘Zombieland: Double Tap’
This fall, Deutch has two new big projects that are definitely going to make her a household name. First is the new Netflix series The Politician, a Ryan Murphy production about a young man who will stop at nothing to become student council president. Deutch portrays Infinity Jackson, his running mate.
Next week, her latest film, Zombieland: Double Tap, will begin playing in theaters. The sequel to the 2009 film will bring back the original stars as they continue to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. It will also introduce new characters, like Deutch’s Madison.
Woody Harrelson says she’s ‘going places’
Deutch’s role as Madison is that of a ditzy Valley girl. But co-star Woody Harrelson told Cosmopolitan for a recent interview that though he “felt sorry for her” at first, he “didn’t need to worry.” “The very first day, the s*** she was trying, the funny s*** she came up with, I was so impressed. I was like, ‘Man, this girl is ballsy!” he says.
“You know, I’ve worked with a lot of great actresses even before they became really well-known,” Harrelson continued. “I knew with Brie Larson and with Emma Stone and with Jen Lawrence — I knew that these gals were going places. And I can tell you with the same surety that Zoey Deutch will be a force to be reckoned with. No question.”
Jessica Lange calls her ‘a genuine actress’
In The Politician, Deutch’s Infinity Jackson is a teenage girl with cancer, who is taken care of by her grandmother, portrayed by Jessica Lange. However, Infinity soon begins to realize that there’s something her Nana isn’t telling her.
The Emmy-winning Lange seems to have just as much confidence in Deutch as Harrelson does. What’s more, she knows she’s dedicated to her craft. “She’s a genuine actress and I think that’s what matters to her,” Lange told Cosmo. “It’s not about becoming famous.”
What will Deutch do next?
Right now, it would appear as though Deutch is busy with promotion for her two new projects. However, she’ll be heading back to filming for a new movie, likely beginning in 2020.
Deutch will reunite with her Set it Up co-star Glen Powell on another Netflix rom-com, Most Dangerous Game. Though not intended to be a sequel, the flick is likely to spark the interest of those who liked them in the first film, as it comes from the same writer. We’re excited to learn more about the movie.
