Will a One Direction Reunion Ever Happen? Harry Styles Answers

There is nothing quite as heartbreaking as your favorite boy band breaking up. It’s like all those years of fangirling meant nothing to them.

Though the end of your fav boy group is gutwrenching, these separations are all too common. Pretty much every boy band in history has broken up because the members of the group decided to go solo. Just look at NSync. Justin Timberlake rose to superstardom, while the rest of the band is pretty much only around for NSync reunions.

And even current bands like Korean Pop group BTS have decided to go on “hiatus,” which we all know means they are probably through.

One Direction’s breakup

No breakup hurt quite like that of One Direction. The group rose to stardom after coming together on The X Factor in 2010. The band made up of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik wormed their way into the hearts of fans everywhere. Over the course of their six-year run, they won nearly 200 awards.

In 2015, Malik left the band to focus on his solo career. The rest of the group stayed together for another year before officially going on an indefinite hiatus.

Did Styles enjoy being in the band?

In the past, when stars have left boy bands, it has come out that they were unhappy while in the group. For Styles, that wasn’t the case.

“I know it’s the thing that always happens,” Styles told Rolling Stone in the September issue. “When somebody gets out of a band, they go, ‘That wasn’t me. I was held back.’ But it was me. And I don’t feel like I was held back at all. It was so much fun. If I didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t have done it. It’s not like I was tied to a radiator.”

And he is still friendly with the rest of his former bandmates.

“Because above all else, we’re the people who went through that,” he said of the experience of being in 1D. “We’re always going to have that, even if we’re not the closest. And the fact is, just because you’re in a band with someone doesn’t mean you have to be best friends. That’s not always how it works. Just because Fleetwood Mac fight, that doesn’t mean they’re not amazing.”

“I think even in the disagreements, there’s always a mutual respect for each other — we did this really cool thing together, and we’ll always have that,” he continued.

Is there going to be a One Direction reunion?

Fans have been wanting a One Direction reunion since the band first announced their hiatus. And Styles is open to the possibility.

“I don’t think I’d ever say I’d never do it again, because I don’t feel that way,” he told the outlet. “If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again.’ But until that time, I feel like I’m really enjoying making music and experimenting. I enjoy making music this way too much to see myself doing a full switch, to go back and do that again. Because I also think if we went back to doing things the same way, it wouldn’t be the same, anyway.”
