Will ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Be the Best Marvel Movie of All Time?
Avengers: Endgame is basically here! It hits theaters this week and that’s got the internet buzzing about anything and everything surrounding the movie.
Marvel has a history of decimating the competition at the box office, so it’s no contest as far as stealing the top-grossing spot.
What is up for debate is whether Avengers: Endgame will be able to hold a candle to its predecessors.
How did the previous ‘Avengers’ films do?
The first film in the installment, The Avengers, marked the beginning of an era for the MCU. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo absolutely slayed in the film.
The critics’ consensus over at Rotten Tomatoes says, “Thanks to a script that emphasizes its heroes’ humanity and a wealth of superpowered set pieces, The Avengers lives up to its hype and raises the bar for Marvel at the movies.”
They couldn’t be more right. The audience score breaks 90 at 91% while the Tomatometer comes in just a tad higher at 92%. Despite the impressive rating, The Avengers isn’t the most beloved MCU film.
Avengers: Age of Ultron may have been an eye-popping adventure with a beloved cast lineup but the film just didn’t wow the audiences like its predecessor. 280,000 people weighed in on the film, ultimately granting it an 83% score. The critics were harsher with a 75% on the Tomatometer.
Avengers: Infinity War got fans really going. The third installment came in at 91% among the audience just like the initial film! The critics however still weren’t as moved as they were with the OG. The average rating among 325 critics leveled out to be 85%.
What are the fan favorites of the MCU?
The other three films in The Avengers franchise all did really well across the board. They brought in millions at the box office, pleased critics, and excited fans on a global scale. Despite the success of the franchise, not a single one of the films made it to the top spot. At least not by the audience numbers on Rotten Tomatoes!
So which films did fans love the most? There are actually two Marvel films that share the crown with a 92% audience score! James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy really is a wild ride. The film talks viewers on an adventure that mirrors the zany antics of the comic perfectly. Chock full of heart, amazing graphics, and comedy to boot, Guardians of the Galaxy is very deserving of its title.
The other film that currently ties for first place is Captain America: Winter Soldier. The suspenseful film is basically the polar opposite of Guardians of the Galaxy making for an interesting mix. Both films also happened to come out in 2014. Looks like that was THE year for the MCU!
Will ‘Avengers: Endgame’ be able to top the charts?
Taking a look at the history of The Avengers franchise, it’s very possible that the finale may steal the show! What Marvel intends to do with Avengers: Endgame is extremely unique. It’s an official wrap up to a story, something that hasn’t been done before. A true ending. Many fans will be sad to see their favorite crime-fighting squad go and that could possibly have bearing on the ratings if it isn’t written well.
However, so long as Marvel does a fantastic job at not only closing the curtains on The Avengers team and setting the stage for future movies, fans may walk out the theaters ready to upvote the finale to the top spot. Being an official ending means Marvel can truly go out with a bang.
With several stars ready to wrap up their contracts, deaths and final goodbyes aren’t out of the question either. If you thought Avengers: Infinity War was an experience, Avengers 4 is definitely going to give it, and all other previous MCU films, a run for their money.
