Will ‘Black Widow’ Answer This ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Mystery?
Fans are very excited about the upcoming Marvel film Black Widow. The Scarlett Johansson-led adventure is a long time coming. And we hope that it can do more than just entertain. Here’s the question from Spider-Man: Far From Home that it may answer.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ was the final MCU film of Phase 3
Technically, Avengers: Endgame wrapped up the Infinity Saga, which began with Iron Man all the way back in 2008. The record-breaking 2019 film saw the death of some heroes, while closing out the journey for others. But Far From Home was technically the final film of Phase 3.
In Far From Home, Peter Parker and the rest of the world are still reeling from Tony Stark‘s final act, which reversed the effects of the snap. Peter had to don his Spider-Man suit once again and fight off a new kind of villain, and learn how to do so without the help of his now-deceased mentor.
‘Black Widow’ will kick off Phrase 4
The first film of Phase 4 was brought to our attention years ago, but wasn’t officially announced until San Diego Comic-Con 2019. There, we met the cast of Black Widow, and learned a little about the flick that will kick off this new era of the MCU.
Instead of moving forward, we’ll be taking a glimpse inside the not-so-distant past. The events of Black Widow are said to place in between the events seen in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. So, approximately 2016-2018. However, there’s no telling whether or not they’ll strictly stay in that time frame (more on that to come).
‘Far From Home’ shocked audiences with that end-credit scene
Far From Home featured plenty of intriguing reveals. Audiences were mostly caught up with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, who is shown to be the true bad guy in a series of fun twists. But keen viewers may have noticed that something was a little off when it came to the SHIELD leadership.
This was all confirmed in a post-credit scene. The Nick Fury and Maria Hill shown throughout the film are, in fact, not themselves — rather, they’re two shapeshifting Skrulls, Talos and Soren, who we first met in Captain Marvel.
Will ‘Black Widow’ reveal Nick Fury’s location?
As seen in the aforementioned scene, the real Nick Fury is on a Skrull spaceship somewhere, enjoying what he considers to be a bit of a vacation. So how did he get there? And when and why did he choose to abandon his post on Earth for the Skrull base?
The fact that this was revealed at the end of Far From Home leads us to believe that these questions could at least begin to be answered in Black Widow. If Fury does make an appearance in the film, perhaps he’ll allude to “taking a trip,” or maybe we’ll actually see when he makes the switch.
These are the other MCU flicks in the works
Of course, if Black Widow doesn’t tell us what happened with Nick Fury and what he’s up to, there are plenty of other films that will be up to the task. Right now, we know about several more MCU flicks in the works. Here they are.
New franchise The Eternals comes out Nov. 6, 2020; Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings kicks off Feb. 12, 2021; Sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness arrives May 7, 2021; Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on Nov. 5, 2021; and Black Panther 2 is expected on May 6, 2022.
