Chip and Joanna Gaines are coming back to television. One thing fans want to know is if their favorite show, Fixer Upper, will be back on the air. Here’s what we know.

Chip and Joanna are returning to TV with their own network

The couple let everyone know they will be making a return to television. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chip and Joanna said they will be getting their own TV network. After Fallon asked if the couple would ever make a return to TV, Chip had this to say:

We signed a non-disclosure and it said, quote unquote, you can tell your mother but that’s it. So, mom, I just wanted to make a quick announcement, we are coming back to television. You’re gonna get to get to see the kids grow up, you’ll get see us, with maybe a six-month delay like the rest of the world, but we’re excited to be back.

The big news was later confirmed by John Marsicano, a representative from Chip and Joanna’s company, Magnolia: “We’re excited to share that we are currently in the early stages of talking with Discovery about a lifestyle-focused media network for Magnolia,” Marsicano told Country Living. “The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique and family-friendly content.”

Why did Chip and Joanna leave HGTV?

The couple said one of the reasons they left is because the taping schedule was starting to wear on them. The pair had been filming 11 months out of the year since the show began in 2013. Another reason they’re called it quits is because they were expecting their fifth child. Chip and Joanna told the Today show they want to slow down and give more time to their family.

When will Chip and Joanna’s new network be on the air?

So far, details are still being finalized. Right now, the couple and Discovery are in talks to develop the network. An air date hasn’t been announced just yet, but USA Today reports the channel, which will be called The Magnolia Network, could be on the air within the next 12 to 18 months. Chip and Joanna will own a minority stake. The Magnolia Network will reportedly replace an existing, underperforming Discovery network. A source told USA Today that candidates for replacement include DIY, Destination America, or Great American Country.

Will Fixer Upper come back on Chip and Joanna’s new network?

It’s unlikely Fixer Upper will be revived on The Magnolia Network. According to the Magnolia website, Chip and Joanna are only doing new builds. The couple is no longer doing renovations or fixer uppers. Here’s what it said on the website:

We are currently only doing new builds and are not renovating/remodeling any fixer uppers. If you live in Waco, or are moving to Waco, and are interested in one of our new builds, you can get in touch with our agents at MagnoliaRealty.com to find out more information. We would love to talk about what Magnolia Homes and Magnolia Realty can do to help you find your own Fixer Upper here in Waco!
