Will Jessa Duggar Choose to Have Another Home Birth for Her Third Baby?
It’s tough to keep track of what the 19 Duggar children are getting up to these days, as many of the older members of the family are marrying off and starting families of their own. But thanks to Instagram, fans know that 26-year-old Jessa is expecting another child with her husband, Ben Seewald. This will be her third — and just like her mother, she’s mentioned in the past that she’s open to having as many children as God will bless her with. It seems this new baby might just be the beginning.
Now that the celebration for Jessa has begun, fans are beginning to wonder if she’ll choose to have another home birth. Here’s what’s speculated — and why there’s concern if she does go the home-birth route.
Jessa’s first pregnancy resulted in an emergency hospital visit

It’s Duggar family tradition to have home births, as they find the home and the help of a midwife (as well as the will of God) to provide as much comfort and safety as necessary. Unfortunately, home births can be tricky — and the Duggar women are notorious for having issues during delivery. Such was the case for Jessa’s first baby, Spurgeon, she gave birth to back in 2015.
As Jessa told People, she almost gave up midway through the home birth and asked to go to the hospital due to the intensity of the contractions. “I said, ‘That’s it! I’m done! I am going to the hospital and I’m going to get an epidural,'” she recalled. “They asked me if I really wanted to do that and I said, ‘No, I don’t, but I do.’ I wanted to try natural if at all possible.” After a delivery that took nearly 48 hours, her son finally arrived — but the joy of the newborn was soon overshadowed by medical issues. Jessa’s midwife alerted the family that the new mother was bleeding profusely and needed medical attention.
Jessa was then rushed to the hospital and was forced to undergo a blood transfusion and an overnight stay. Everything worked out in the end — but it was definitely a scary ordeal.
Her second pregnancy went much smoother, however
While her first home birth experienced ended in a medical emergency, this didn’t deter Jessa from giving up on the idea completely. And, according to People, her second home birth with her son Henry went way smoother than the first.
The publication notes Jessa used the same midwife as she did with Spurgeon. And within two hours of her water breaking, she was experiencing strong contractions — something she had gone through with Spurgeon for 10 hours. This time was way different, however, and Jessa even notes she was “surprised how fast it went.” Within just a few hours Henry was born — and he came so fast that Michelle and Jana Duggar almost didn’t even make it to the home in time. As Jessa notes, “I was already pushing when they walked in the door.”
Will she choose a home birth for baby No. 3? We think so
Jessa and her husband, Ben, recently announced they’re expecting baby No. 3 — and the parents couldn’t be more ecstatic. As the young mom told People in a statement, “We are overjoyed that God has blessed us with a baby, due late this Spring!” And it seems the two are already making gender predictions as well. While they would love to add a girl to the family, Jessa noted, “From the day we found out we were expecting, we both guessed boy, and if our predictions are right then we already have a ton the clothing and accessories ready to pass down!”
Now, fans are wondering if Jessa will choose a home birth again — and it seems like she definitely will. While Spurgeon’s birth was difficult, her home birth to Henry seemed like a cakewalk for the mom. And while she’d head to the hospital in the case of a medical emergency, it seems like she’s committed to her trusty midwife and the comforts of her own house. We’ll have to wait and see what she chooses, but we think we already know the answer.
