Will ‘When Calls The Heart’ Replace or Write Out Abigail?

Lori Loughlin  – currently under scrutiny for the college admissions scandal that she, Felicity Huffman, and other A-list individuals are wrapped up in – is facing charges for conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. Loughlin and her fashion-designer husband Mossimo Giannulli may each face up to forty years in prison (20 for each charge), according to Fox News.

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli reportedly paid $500,000 to get their daughters into USC and created false proof that they were crew recruits. While no one would deny that Loughlin and Giannulli deserve whatever financial consequences and prison terms may be on the horizon, fans of When Calls The Heart are curious as to the future of Lori Loughlin’s character: Abigail.

Who is Abigail on ‘When Calls the Heart?’

Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Staton on When Calls the Heart. The show follows a young teacher, Elizabeth Thatcher, who has grown accustomed to high society after she gets her first classroom assignment in Hope Valley. Hope Valley is a small mining town that presents many challenges for the young teacher.

Abigail Stanton welcomes Thatcher and tries to help her adjust to the town’s ways and all the difficulties that Hope Valley presents. In the series, Abigail Stanton is the town’s Mayor and functions as a significant part of the community.

Lori Loughlin – before Hallmark cut all ties with the actress – had a significant role on the show, contributing to several major plots and subplots, as well as the overall spirit of the series. Thus, many fans have grown curious as to what the show plans to do with the character? Will Lori Loughlin be recast? Written out? If she is recast, who will take on the role?

Will the writers find a way to write Abigail Stanton out of ‘When Calls the Heart?’

Many fans argue that, though technically, Abigail Stanton can be written out of the story, her absence would completely change the show (for the worse). However, if the writers go with this option, whether they decide to kill her off or send her away becomes the main question.

If they send her away, how would they do it? She is the mayor, so big news would have to come from out of town to convince this one to pack up her things and go. Many fans feel that this is not an option, as the character would be likely to take Cody (Ryan Evancic) with her, according to Quad-City Times.

So, if Abigail doesn’t leave town to attend to personal or family matters, the only other way to write her off is to kill her. Should Abigail be killed? Will this smoothly be incorporated into the show, or will it always feel a bit abrupt?

After her death, will the series forever be attempting to recover from a decision that was forced upon them, as a result of Lori Loughlin’s criminal behavior? Killing off the character and writing her out aren’t great options, as Lori Loughlin’s Abigail is not merely a supporting cast member on the show.

Will Lori Loughlin be replaced (by Lisa Whelchel) on ‘When Calls the Heart?’

Many fans have come to the conclusion that writing Abigail Stanton out of the show doesn’t make much sense, as her character is too important. However, if she’s not written out, there’s only one option: she must be recast.

While another Hallmark actress, Lisa Whelchel, has stated that she would be willing to take on the role, is she the right fit for the character? Fans have taken to forums to discuss how they feel about her in the role, and while she may be a Hallmark alumn, many would not be happy with this casting.

Those behind When Calls the Heart have a tough decision to make; however, based on all the different arguments and evidence, Abigail Stanton will likely be recast, as writing the character off seems like too much of a non sequitur.
