Will Meghan Markle’s Family Be Invited to Meet the Royal Baby?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together sometime in late April, and the royal family couldn’t be more thrilled. However, Meghan’s relationship with her own family has been on the rocks for years, with the exception of her close ties to her mother, Doria Ragland. But when it comes to other members of the family, such as her father Thomas Markle and sister Samantha Markle, things haven’t always been peachy. Will Meghan’s family get to meet the royal baby when he or she finally arrives?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their pregnancy in October

The royal couple announced last October that they were expecting their first child. Harry and Meghan only wed in May 2018, so the public wasn’t expecting them to start a family so soon. However, the couple did say before they wed that they were eager to start a family together. Plus, with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids growing up quickly, Meghan and Harry probably wanted all of the cousins to be relatively close in age. The couple said Meghan is due in late April, but besides that, most details (including the gender) have been kept under wraps.

Meghan has had problems with her family through the years

While the royal family is thrilled about Meghan and Harry’s baby, Meghan’s own family hasn’t always had her back. She doesn’t have a very close relationship with her half-sister, Samantha Markle. Samantha has even had books in the works all about growing up with Meghan, and their concepts are negative. She recently said in an interview that Meghan “doesn’t have a heart.” Although she did apologize at one point for the remarks she made about Meghan and Harry, it  doesn’t appear to have changed her overall views on her half-sister.

It’s possible Thomas Markle will be invited to meet the baby, but it’s unlikely any of Meghan’s other family members will get the invite

If any family member (besides Meghan’s mother) gets to meet the royal baby when he or she is born, it will probably be Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father. The two have had a bit of falling out for most of Meghan’s adulthood, but he was there for her growing up and always gave her everything she needed, which she has said before. He was supposed to come to her wedding but reportedly had heart problems in the days leading up to the event and didn’t attend. Although the two haven’t talked much recently, there’s a chance she will reach out and invite him to meet his grandchild. However, the other members of Meghan’s family weren’t even invited to her wedding, so it’s unlikely that they’ll be invited over to come meet her new baby.

Meghan’s mother is reportedly going to the United Kingdom for an extended stay once the baby arrives

Unlike the rest of Meghan’s family, Doria has always been very close with her daughter. She was the only family member to attend the royal wedding, and although she still lives in Los Angeles, there are reports that she will fly over to spend an extended period of time with Meghan and Harry when the new baby arrives. It makes sense that Meghan would want her mother around, since she is a first-time parent, but it doesn’t look like too many other members of Meghan’s family will be welcome.
