Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Really Spend Baby Archie’s First Christmas in the US?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are about to take a six-week break from their royal life to visit the U.S. with their son Archie. According to a new report, the Sussexes may extend their stay to spend Christmas with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Prince Harry and Markle will be on an extended break
It was recently announced that Prince Harry and Markle will leave for the U.S. soon, taking a six-week break from royal duties to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with Markle’s mother in California. It was believed that the Sussexes would return to spend Christmas Day with Queen Elizabeth and the royal family in Sandringham.
Their break comes on the heels of the couple’s emotional interviews during the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, in which they opened up about the scrutiny they’ve experienced living in the spotlight.
Markle shared in an interview: “Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know… especially as a woman, it’s really, it’s a lot, so you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed its, yeah, well I guess.”
Markle added, “And also thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
During the documentary, Prince Harry also admitted that the feud rumors about him and his brother Prince William are true, explaining: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens.”
He admitted that they’re “on different paths at the moment” and shared “as brothers, you have good days and you have bad days.”
They may stay in the US through Christmas
While it hasn’t yet been confirmed, it’s rumored that the Sussexes may stay in the United States through Christmas Day.
Hello! magazine first reported the possibility of Prince Harry and Markle extending their stay through Christmas, but a senior palace source told the Mirror Online: “It’s too early to tell exactly what they will end up doing, they haven’t decided.”
At the time their break was announced, a source confirmed the visit with PEOPLE, noting: “The duke and duchess have a full schedule of engagements and commitments until mid-November, after which they will be taking some much-needed family time.”
The Sussexes may consider a part-time move to the US
Will the Sussexes set up a base in California? There’s been some discussion about that possibility, with royal expert Dan Wootton sharing during an interview on ITV’s Lorraine: “What I have learned is that after six weeks in California they are considering a potential part-time move there. We could be looking at a situation where they might spend great swathes of the year in the US.”
He continued: “Now this hasn’t been decided yet. They will have to work out location, work out exactly where they want to be. But the suggestions are very much California because that is, of course, where Meghan’s mother Doria is.”
