Prince Harry and Meghan Markle couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome their first child together next month. But their parenting styles will probably be pretty different from Prince William and Kate Middleton. With this being the couple’s first child, they’ll likely go through a bit of trial and error before they master their own parenting technique. But will Meghan and Harry spoil Baby Sussex?
Meghan and Harry announced their pregnancy last October
The royal couple’s romance has been a whirlwind. It seems just a few years ago, Meghan and Harry didn’t even know the other one’s name. The two were first introduced in 2016, and they only dated for about a year and a half before Harry proposed. And royals tend to have short engagements, so the two only wed about six months after they were engaged. Meghan and Harry had both talked about wanting children soon after they wed, but nobody expected the couple to announce a pregnancy so soon. In October 2018, the couple told the public they’re expecting their first child in the spring. Since then, very few details have emerged about the royal baby.
The royal baby won’t have as much responsibility as his or her cousins
One thing to know about Meghan and Harry’s child is that his or her role in the royal family won’t be the same as the roles of Will and Kate’s children. Will is going to be king one day, and according to the family line, so will George. This means that Will’s children will have an upbringing in the royal limelight the same way Will and Harry did. However, Harry and Meghan’s child will be a cousin to the future ruler, which means they’ll grow up similarly to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie; they are royalty, but they don’t have to follow all the same rules and have much less royal responsibility.
Meghan and Harry will probably spoil the baby more if they have a girl
As far as whether or not Meghan and Harry will spoil their child, it may depend somewhat on the gender. Harry and Meghan have both always wanted a girl. When the couple first announced the pregnancy, a fan yelled that he hoped the two would have a girl. Harry replied, “So do I!” And Meghan once said that she already has an engraved Cartier watch she wants to give to her future daughter. The two haven’t spoken much about having a boy (although we’re sure they’d love him just the same).
The two probably want to raise their child to be respectful, not greedy
Although Meghan and Harry have plenty of money to spoil their royal baby, they probably won’t. While they’ll likely dress their child in high-end clothes and drive him or her around in expensive car seats (not to mention expensive cars), the royal baby will also be taught the importance of giving back and understand that there are billions of people less fortunate around the world. Harry wants to use his royal role to do good in the world, and we’re sure he’ll instill those same values in his child. Meghan has always been about using her voice to promote positive change, so it seems that Baby Sussex won’t be showered in expensive things without at least learning about the importance of equality and charity.
