Will Prince Philip Be At Princess Eugenie’s Wedding?

As Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank draws near many are still wondering if her grandfather, Prince Philip, will be a no-show.

For months there’s been speculation about whether or not the Duke of Edinburgh will actually attend the wedding given his long-standing feud with Eugenie’s mother, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson. Now though, we finally have our answer.

It’s no secret that Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, cannot stand his former daughter-in-law and ever since Eugenie and Brooksbank announced their engagement, people have been wondering if Philip will even go to the wedding. In fact, Fergie has been wondering the same thing herself.

Sources close to Ferguson say that she is “very nervous” about running into him if he does show up.

Their royal feud started back in the ’90s when the Duchess of York was still married to Philip’s son, Prince Andrew. The marriage was not a very happy one but before announcing their separation, photos of Ferguson sunbathing topless and getting her toes sucked by oil tycoon John Bryan were splashed all over the news. The scandal was a huge embarrassment for the royal family and something that Philip, in particular, was livid about.

Andrew and the duchess ended up divorcing in 1996 but Prince Philip never forgave her for “damaging the family’s reputation.” To this day he still despises her so much so that he doesn’t even want to be in the same building as her. It’s even been reported that he is the reason she was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Ferguson was invited to Prince Harry’s royal nuptials to Meghan Markle but only to the public ceremony, not the private reception her ex-husband and children were invited to.

That affair was organized by Prince Charles and many feel that he kept her off the guest list at the urging of his father. However, a palace source claimed that the Prince of Wales had his own reasons for not inviting her saying, “She is not a member of the royal family anymore and Prince Charles simply doesn’t have time for her. He just can’t see why she is still such a big part of his brother’s life.”

Fergie will be at Princess Eugenie’s wedding though since she is her mother, and as unhappy as Philip may be about that he will be in attendance as well. A royal insider told The Express that as long as his health allows, he will definitely be present on his grandaughter’s big day.

“He absolutely adores Eugenie. He can’t stand up for very long, which makes church services hard work, and he can’t stand Fergie, but he wants to see Eugenie married and, if he is fit enough to be there, he will be there.”

Prince Philip turned 97 in June and retired from his royal duties last year.

Hopefully, he and Fergie can remain civil for one day.
