Will Prince William Make Sure No Future Royal Is Named Diana?

Losing a parent at any age is never easy, but when you are only 15 years old, it makes it a million times more difficult. Add in the fact that Prince William, who lost his mother, Diana at this young age, was going through intense grief in front of the entire world, and it becomes practically unbearable.

Diana’s death was extremely sudden, and there is no doubt that William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, were devastated upon learning the news. Losing Diana greatly affected the lives of both princes, in very different ways.

Many new parents choose to name their child after a loved one. Sometimes that loved one is already deceased, other times, it’s someone who is in the baby’s life. During all three of Kate Middleton’s pregnancies, fans considered the possibility that should the baby be a girl, she’d be named Diana. Although she and William didn’t use Diana as a first name, it is one of Princess Charlotte’s middle names.

During Meghan Markle’s pregnancy, there was the same speculation that should she and Harry welcome a girl, she’d be named after the late princess.

If there is a family in the world who is notorious for naming babies in someone’s honor, it is the royals. Prince William was named for William of Gloucester. Even his middle names have special meaning, as Philip is obviously for his paternal grandfather, and Arthur and Louis are family names as well.

As many people know, Prince George is named after his great-great-grandfather, King George VI, and Princess Charlotte’s name is a nod to her grandfather, Prince Charles.

Would Meghan and Harry have named a daughter Diana?

It is hard to say. Some tabloids did, in fact, say they were considering the name Diana had they welcomed a baby girl, yet only Meghan and Harry know the answer to that.

However, William may not have been too happy if they did. He feels that naming a royal baby Diana wouldn’t necessarily be the right thing to do, given the fact that Charles is now married to Camilla, according to some sources. That is not to say that giving a baby the name Diana would be forbidden, but there may be some hurt feelings if that were to happen.

Will royals respect Prince William’s wishes on not using Diana as a first name?

If Prince William doesn’t like the idea of Diana being used as a first name, and being a future king, his feelings will be strongly taken into consideration by all royal family members. Although any new parents who consider using the name may feel that they are paying tribute to Diana, the history behind the moniker is just too much to handle.

Given the fact that Princess Charlotte’s name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, it would appear that he is not opposed to using it as a middle name.

Will William make sure that no future royal is named Diana?

He may request that royal parents refrain from using the name. Obviously, the name is very sentimental to him, and he may feel that it is proper to let it rest with his beloved mother.

As a future king, royal family members will most likely respect William’s wishes, and make sure to only use Diana as a middle name, if at all.
