Will Ryan Reynolds Convince Hugh Jackman to Reprise Wolverine For the MCU?

If you follow Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman on social media, you are well aware of their rivalry filled with admiration and mutual respect. Though they pick on each other and find any opportunity to crack a joke at the other’s expense, the love existing between the Merc with a Mouth and the former (hopefully not for too long) Wolverine is undeniable.

From the funny birthday wishes to the competitive displays of superhero superiority, these two never get tired of relying on their cinematic turns as Deadpool (Reynolds) and Wolverine (Jackman) to best each other.

Recently, Hugh Jackman took to Instagram to crack yet another funny joke; however, with Deadpool leaning up against a very suggestive adamantium claw, it’s easy to wonder if Jackman would ever step back into the role of Wolverine. And, what would be enough to convince him to do so? You can see the post below.

Could Ryan Reynolds talk Hugh Jackman into playing Wolverine one more time … for the fans?

Hugh Jackman gave an emotionally stirring and satisfying final bow as Wolverine in the 2017 movie Logan. Thus, returning to the franchise could easy minimize the impact this film left, as it was meant to be seen at the character’s validating denoument. If the MCU brings Wolverine back to life (or chooses an alternate timeline for the character), Logan ceases to retain the value it currently holds. On the other hand, fans have been begging for a Wolverine-Deadpool mash-up since the failed attempt in 2009.

In 2009, Deadpool and Wolverine appeared together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine; however, this Deadpool was not the Merc with Mouth fans have come to know and love. This Deadpool was a silent violent type who lacked solid characterization. Fans deserve a redo, don’t you think? Fans deserve a proper mash-up with these two characters in their prime. Their personalities are complementary, and they would work well together in an R-Rated mash-up.

Given Reynolds and Jackman’s relationship, Reynolds would likely be the only one capable of talking Hugh Jackman into a reprisal, as Jackman has stated in the past that he feels finished with the character.

Reynolds may have the pull to get Jackman in the suit one more time if the Deadpool movie would feature Jackman in a role that does not minimize Logan’s previous outings and also gives the character a purpose to exist beyond fan satisfaction.

Hugh Jackman seems done with the Wolverine lifestyle

Jackman has explained that exiting Wolverine was a bit of a relief, at least in the physical sense of the word. Jackman had to maintain an unrealistic physique for over 15 years, and while he was able to cheat now and again, the next movie always kept him a bit hesitant.

Jackman explained to Jimmy Fallon that he’s ready to put that physical demand — the intermittent fasting and crazy workout schedule — behind him. It’s fair for Jackman, after so many years, to desire roles that are equally challenging, but maybe less so when it comes to dieting and fitness.

Not to mention, Jackman played the character for so many years, he was ready to say farewell. Though admitting he’s bad at goodbyes in an interview with MovieManiacsDE, he explained that he knew it was time to hang up his claws. So, would he be willing to jump back in?  Reynolds may just have to keep persisting. If Reynolds keeps implying that Deadpool would beat Jackman in a battle, Jackman may just have to return to prove him wrong.
