‘Frozen 2’: Will the Soundtrack Live up to the Original?
A Frozen sequel (fans have been patiently waiting) means new music. We’ve been singing “Let It Go” since we saw Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) in Frozen when it premiered in Nov. of 2013.
Almost six years later to the day, Frozen 2 will hit theaters and give audiences an entirely new soundtrack to sing along to just in time for the holiday season. But, will the soundtrack to Frozen 2 be just as good as the music in Frozen?
The problem with sequels is that they stand in the shadow of what came before. There are expectations and hype. Sure, there are movies in any given series that not only live up to originals but exceed expectations and surprise audiences by being just as good, if not better, than previous installments in a franchise. Take our list of sequels that are even better than the originals. It happens. But not often.
We think fans and critics alike with have to let it go with expectations set by the soundtrack to Frozen to fully appreciate the music in Frozen 2, which will be no easy feat considering the massive success of the original.
‘Frozen’ soundtrack is a best seller
We’re not so sure how the soundtrack to Frozen 2 will be received by audiences and critics because, let’s face it, the music has a lot to live up to after the success of the songs featured in Frozen.
The soundtrack to Frozen became the top-selling album of 2014, according to Billboard. It spent 13 weeks on the Billboard 200 and sold more than three million copies. The most popular song from the movie, Menzel’s “Let It Go,” went on to become the first original song from Disney since 1995 to reach the Hot 100’s top 10.
‘Frozen’ won two Oscars
Not only did the PG-rated movie become a huge success — it’s the second highest-grossing animated film behind The Lion King (2019), according to The Wrap — Frozen landed not one but two Oscar nominations in 2014. One for Best Animated Feature and another for Best Original Song for “Let It Go.” The movie won in both categories.
Frozen 2 has already been submitted for Best Animated Feature in the 2020 Oscar race, according to Entertainment Weekly.

New faces, or should we say voices, will be part of the music in Frozen 2. Kacey Musgraves, Panic! At The Disco, and Weezer are three popular artists who will be featured on the soundtrack. Musgraves sings “All Is Found” while Panic! At The Disco performs a version of “Into The Unknown” and Weezer sings “Lost in the Woods.”
As expected, the soundtrack features the cast of Frozen 2: Josh Gad, Menzel, Jonathan Gross, Bell, and Evan Rachel Wood.“The Next Right Thing” and “Some Things Never Change” are sung by Bell’s character Anna. Menzel, the voice of Elsa, performs “Show Yourself” and “Into The Unknown.”
