Will ‘The Witcher’ Live Up To The Hype? Critics Think It Might
The Witcher follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher or monster-hunter. He travels a place known as the Continent searching for work. Along the way, he meets sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg and princess Cirilla, known as Ciri, of Cintra. The three of them make up a somewhat unusual family unit.
There is a lot of hype surrounding The Witcher. It is already being compared to Game of Thrones, which is a definite compliment. Though the Netflix series needs to stand on its own, it already seems to be doing so to a certain extent. Though so far, most reviews are not out for the series, some critics reacted to their viewings of the show on Twitter.
What are critics saying so far about ‘The Witcher’?
Most of the critics’ reactions to The Witcher so far seem to be positive, according to Allison Schonter of PopCulture.com. One Tweets that “The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look like two drunks fighting outside a bar.” Another adds to that praise by saying: “The fight choreography is insane…The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection.”
This critic, the same one from the above statement, “watched [one] fight scene four times already” and believes that viewers are “in for a treat.” Another critic reacts using a crying gif that says “I’m so excited.” This critic goes on to say “how dare you make something so glorious” and that “Henry Cavill chose Roach well.” Another critic praises the writing by saying “[Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich] has done a masterful job telling this story.”
This critic goes on to say that “It also helps that the cast is amazing! And Henry Cavill, just…wow.” The same critic also adds that “the show follows the heart and soul of the overall story” but that fans of the books will need to “be prepared for some differences.” Another critic says, “The Witcher‘s cast, both lead and supporting, are beyond exceptional.”
What are fans’ reactions to the critics’ early statements about ‘The Witcher’?
One fan is “so hyped to hear [that the fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look not as good.]” Another fan is “so excited for [The Witcher]” and is “going to binge-watch [the show] on the day it comes out.” Another fan adds that The Witcher is their “most anticipated release this year.”
Another fan says that they “cannot wait” for The Witcher to premiere on Netflix. While another says that they feel for the “poor thing” who has to ” keep all those delicious Witcher secrets.” This fan is also “stoked for [the] show.”
Of course, you can’t please everyone. One fan, responding to the idea that the fight scenes in The Witcher are really good, even when compared to Game of Thrones, says that the show “[doesn’t] look that good” and that “the trailer looked average.” This fan also goes on to say that “Netflix [makes] terrible series, so we will soon see.” Overall, however, the majority of reactions seem to be positive.
Will Netflix’s new fantasy series live up to the hype?
Only time will truly tell, yet so far most of the critics’ and fans’ reactions seem to be positive. Those who have seen the show have praised the fight scenes, the writing, and the cast. Fans seem to be eagerly awaiting The Witcher‘s release date.
If early reactions and fan excitement are anything to go by, The Witcher might indeed live up to the hype. Everything certainly looks good so far, but you never know. All you can do is hope for the best: that The Witcher will be a hit that fans of the fantasy genre will enjoy for a long time.
