Willow Smith’s Childhood Pet Helped Jada Pinkett Smith ‘Overcome a Fear’

Plenty of celebrities have pets. Some are best friends with their dogs while others, such as Tayor Swift, are all about cats.

When it comes to celebrity couple Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, they have a history of coming face to face with some more unconventional pets thanks to their kids, Jaden Smith, 22, and Willow Smith, 20. Jada even overcame a fear thanks to one of her daughter’s pets.

Jada explained during a 2009 interview with Redbook how Willow’s longing to get a pet snake helped her conquer her own fear of snakes.

“Willow’s a wild child like me. She’s got this snake, Beauty. I’ve always loved snakes but was afraid of them,” she said.

The Magic Mike XXL actor continued, saying her fear of snakes went away when she met Beauty. She’d never even come near a snake before but the now 49-year-old got up close and personal with Willow’s snake. That was all it took for her fear of snakes to disappear.

“Willow had wanted this one snake forever,” Jada said. “She’d go into the pet store and pick it up and wrap it around her. I’d never touched a snake before, and I put out my hand, and Beauty [mimics the snake slithering up her arm].”

What happened? Jada says she’s “been in love with her ever since.”

After that moment she thanked her daughter: “I said to Willow, ‘You did Mommy a big favor. You helped me overcome a fear.’”

Willow Smith’s dad, Will Smith, is ‘good with snakes’ but not mice

Jada’s not the only one in the Smith household who isn’t afraid of snakes. Her longtime husband and Suicide Squad star Will said during a 2013 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he’s “good with snakes” because “Willow has a boa constrictor.”

However, there’s one animal he’s afraid of, mice.

“I’m brave for my kids and strong, but if there’s a mouse, Jada gotta [SIC] deal with it,” he said. “Rats are OK, or a possum – but a mouse, ahh! Even now I’m getting nervous thinking about it.”

Will said the next time he came on the show he’d try to face his fear head-on.

When Jaden went on the same talk show in 2020, host Ellen DeGeneres asked the rapper if he shared Will’s fear of mice. Jaden said mice didn’t scare him but admitted he wouldn’t want to see one on set.

“I’m not not scared of mice, though,” he said. “I’m not overly scared of mice as he [Will Smiht] is, but it’s like, I wouldn’t like to see a bunch of mice right now, Ellen.”

Maybe Willow will get some mice as pets so she can help her dad and brother overcome their fear.
