Wilmer Valderrama Rushed to Ex Demi Lovato’s Side After Her Apparent Drug Overdose
After Demi Lovato was hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose, her ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, rushed to her side.
On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, the 25-year-old was found unconscious by police and first responders in her Hollywood Hills, California home. TMZ reported that Lovato had been administered Narcan to reverse the opioid overdose, which has stabilized the singer.
She was transported to her local hospital, as a representative for the Los Angeles Fire Department told People. “LAPD and LAFD responded to a medical emergency at the 8000 block of Laurel View Dr. at 11:40 a.m.,” the representative explained.
On late Tuesday, it was confirmed that Lovato had become stable. Her rep announced in a statement, “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
The day after Lovato was hospitalized, Valderrama paid Lovato a visit, after reportedly being “shocked” by the news. A source told People, “He knew she was going through a tough time but he wasn’t prepared for this. He saw her through so many ups and downs and was her rock through some of her darkest moments. To see her back in such a sad and vulnerable place is heartbreaking for him.”
“[Valderrama] always cared deeply for her and they truly remained friends after they broke up,” the insider added. They had dated for six years, but broke up in June 2016. “Demi always hoped they would end up back together in the future. He’s the love of her life and vice versa.”
While Valderrama continues to show how much he cares for Lovato, other celebrities have taken to social media to show their support.
Another of Lovato’s famous exes, Joe Jonas, tweeted, “Like all of you I am thinking of @DDLovato right now. She needs our prayers and support. We all know how strong you are Demi. #prayfordemi.”
His younger brother, Nick Jonas, shared that he was “reeling at the news about Demi.” He wrote on Twitter and his Instagram stories, “All of us love her and need to pray for her to get well. She is a fighter. #prayfordemi.”
Riverdale star Lili Reinhart shared a touching message on Twitter, sharing that she’s “praying for @ddlovato and her health.” She continued, “When I was 14, she was an idol to me in how she spoke so openly about mental health. And now she continues to inspire thousands of young men and women with her body positivity messages. Addiction and mental illness doesn’t discriminate.”
Lovato’s apparent overdose came just two days after performing in Paso Robles, California. During the concert, she sang her new song, “Sober,” in which she admits to a relapse after six years of sobriety.
According to People, a source claimed “she and her ‘friends’ were on a binger the entire night” before she was found. “They keep Narcan on hand for such situations — they were prepared for this. The people she has been hanging around lately aren’t her real friends — they don’t have her best interests at heart. She’s pushed her true friends away.”
The source added, “She had to find creative and sneaky ways to get drugs because her team and those that really care about her really try to keep a close watch on her.”
